Electrical Engineering...

I'm in university, in second year engineering, and I'm trying to decide between software engineering and electrical. I'm currently headed towards electrical though. I'll be taking the first two actual elec courses this summer (linear circuits, continuous time signals and systems) amongst other courses.
I was just curious if there were other Shroomerites who are either getting their degree in elec engineering or have finished.
If so, how did you find/do you find the degree? How were coop jobs, or the job(s) you found when you graduated? Did it/do you think it will lead to a rewarding career? What are some of your interests in the field?

I would be interested in some of these answers too. I am skeptical of the job prospects and marketability because electrical engineering is something that the people in emerging markets could easily out compete us in.

Electrical engineering is a good field to get into. A useful job? That's a different question.

Ok, due to a lack of replies I'm gonna expand my original query.
Does anyone know of anyone who received a degree or is going into electrical engineering?
And can you tell any information you have as to how their jobs are, or what they think about it, ect.

I suggest asking this at the physics forums, they do more than just physics. There is a section there on academic guidance and one on career guidance. People from all sorts of technical careers ask and answer questions there, from math to science to engineering to teaching.
In my experience, having frequented that forum much over the years, the answers you get there will be highly optimistic. But its still worth checking out.

My grandfather had fun as an electrical engineer. He was trained by the Navy in WWII.
The story he tells is that he was on a ship off shore of Japan when they dropped the bomb(s?). Everyone had to go below deck, but he was required to stay above deck and watch. I should double check that story before he dies.
He ended up being mainly managerial. Working for the company that did all of fords electronics. Lived all over the world. For instance, my father went to highschool in Brazil. My family to this day gets a discount on Ford cars. allowing them to essentially get a 'new' car every few years. They have all stated that they would probably not be buying fords or new cars if it wasnt for the discount.
Similar story with my uncle who went to school for Chemical engineering. He does a lot of work in Asia. But also as a more managerial position. Land acquisition I believe. Not to sure.
I recently saw Tony Hey, a senior researcher with Microsoft speak about the Data Deluge. Essentially what are we going to do with petabytes of information. I feel that a software engineer will have a better future than an electrical engineer. But my background is in anthropology. This does not discredit my response, but it should be realized that this is not my area of expertise.
