well i started misting and fanning about 4 days ago i think. no changes.
the myc is matted down kinda and doesn't look very cotton(y) anymore. a little blue bruising but not Much.
i dont see and knots forming of any signs of primordia (its still a bit early though.
i know the first time i did cakes i d&r'ed half of them, the half i didnt roll became matted down and glossy like the myc in my mono. while the other half of the cakes had cotton(y) myc showing through the verm and soon fruited. i picked fruits from the D&R'ed half while the plain ones were still knotting with no fruits.
should i apply a thin verm layer to my mono... ?

i think a layer of verm might help alot, pastureize it and then lay half an inch over the surface. that will help the myc retain its moisture

cool id like to do that. I mean, when you dunk and roll... you just get a thin layer on the cake and the rest falls off...
this is what i am trying to reproduce. i dont think i need 1/2" layer. Just a thin one.
i should be okay not pasturizing then rite?

you sterilize your verm/brf in the jars, thats why you dont need to pasturize it.
verm isnt really contam prone so you could be fine without pasturizeing it.
but it couldnt hurt to stuff your verm in a tube sock and boil it at 160 degrees for 45mins.

i was referring to the verm you use to Roll your cakes in after full colonization when your ready to fruit.
yea i just put a thin layer over it, it should be okay. still no signs of pins though. How long to mono's usually take to start pinning?
so if im going to make a casing layer. could i just PC it instead of pasteurizing? PC'ing would be easier but im not sure if it will kill off to many beneficial microbes??
Thanks
