Room temp/light or Dark/warm?
    #14162893 - 03/22/11 02:16 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Just looking for some feedback.
My house is at 55-60F.  So i opted to put my wbs jars in a tub with a reptile heating rock that keeps the temp around 78-80F but needs to be in dark to keep the warmth (only have huge sliding glass doors in my apartment, no windows.  The let in the cold as well)

Should i leave them in the dark and warm, or let them get the light?

Having light, or darkness on colonizing jars has no bearing on mycelial performance. Keep your jars between 75-80F for optimal growth performance. Make sure you have good gas exchange, preferably in an open closet or anywhere that air isn't restricted.
Although light is a pinning trigger, I've found it to only be a big influence when paired with fresh air exchange.

Having light would be better than absolute darkness. It should shed some time off of your colonizing times.
Also, it's important to let them breathe. GE is everything.

Thanks for the responses.
I agree the warmth is a plus, but i may be lacking in GE.
I have 1/4in polyfill holes + a two layer coffee filter filter.  Will ditching the coffee filter be worth the extra GE?
polyfill is nice and snug
