first time attempting grain, was using popcorn, soak for 24 hours, simmer for 60 minutes, PC for 60 minutes, stirred often....all the kernles popped. which part was wrong? stirring? or simmering for 60? or something else?
already soaking 2 more bags to attempt again..never give up, never surrender.

cut back on your simmer time alil bit, i never timed when using popcorn i'd just keep checking every 10-15 minutes to see if I could split the kernal with my fingernail, once i could i'd strain and let it steam itself dry for 45 minutes to an hour, stirring occasionally to make it steam more..
as well PC for 90 minutes with popcorn
as well the burst kernals will still colonize fine

Go get some rye at the health food store, follow RR's grain prep tek, get perfect results the first time.

Popped?
when you said "stirred often" did you mean while soaking, or drying?
I wouldn't exactly call bursted cornels "popped" lol, (there just a lil split rite?)
Also like Biologys said they will still colonize. in-fact i kinda like them bursted to an extent... lets the MYC get a stronger foot-hold on the cornels. (Bursted cornels need a little more attention when it comes to draining, you want them on the dry side a bit because some moisture will come out of the cornels during PC) Also: i find the myc is usually pretty tolerant to wetter/dryer cornels (a little room for error) but you will know when you've found the rite moisture content and eventually get it down.
Also i simmer for 60-90 Min's and PC for the same amount of time, WORKS GREAT!!
but if you dont like bursted cornels then just cut back on the boiling time

i actually did get some rye berries before from a health food store nearby but they closed down...otherwise i would go that route..popcorn is the easiest atm. the WBS available to me has loads of cracked corn and sunflower seeds and is messy as hell..
ill noc them up i guess still, ive got more soaking, guess ill do 2 tubs or have a failsafe. nothing wrong with more than necessary!
ty everyone for the help, i wouldnt even be in this hobby if it werent for the great minds in this community : D
