Dry spawn bag
    #14160528 - 03/21/11 05:37 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hey,

I've got what looked to be an excessively dry grain bag that still colonized all the way somehow after a lot of time.. its not very rhizo though, is this just because the bag was dry or is it potentially some kind of contamination & not mushroom mycelium?

i would say that it is almost surely mushroom mycelium. contaminants have never wasted any time colonizing in my limited experience. once you fix the problem (dry/too cold/no gas exchange) the mycelium should perk up.

but definately get a second and third opinion

Bacterial contam can slow the mycellium down.  Hard to call without pics.

Evolution is Lamarckism in disguise.  Adaptation never creates a new species or trait, but rather the new species/trait always existed within the parent DNA until circumstances allowed it to be activated.  For instance, every wolf has the DNA for poodles, but that DNA would never be revealed without man selectively breeding for it.

Thats true but if its all colonised than the mycelium may have just won the race of contams or just been slow due to dryness or other factors.
If your bag has a filter patch just smell the air threw it whilst squeezing the bag and if it smells tasty your on to a winner :hatsoff:
