Blind or Deaf?
    #14158971 - 03/21/11 12:04 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Sight or Sound? Which would you rather Lose?

Not sure if this Poll has been done before. but if so i will explain
i have Macular Dystrophy, eventually the lights will go out on me.
i knew this may happen since i was little, its been in my family history
but is confirmed with the slow gradual degeneration of my vision

as it stands, i can still see, it is little faded
i can see color just very dull, i think i see it different than others
i dont see many brights anymore except pink which is why im in love with it
my right eye is far worse than my left and i am ultra/uv sensitive
which is why i always wear sunglasses, and require glasses
its also why i use a 52" Sony Bravia HD tv for my Computer Monitor

this is something i dont think i have fully admitted here until now.
i dont like to talk about it becus i get all grossed out and hypochondria
like i will feel my eyes drying up into blindness inside my skull as we speak
i will close my eyelids and hold them closed but then open them right away becus
when i see the darkness, its just a reminder of whats to come.

i have gotten used to the idea, but can you really? i cant lie and say it doesnt add
to my depression subconsciously.. some of you may stare through faded vision as well
and as i stare at this screen through my faded vision i close my eyes as Bjork sings to me
and i dont think i could ever live without my Hearing

i would rather be Blind than Deaf
What would you rather be..?
You may choose only one

I'd rather be deaf than blind. I love computers, electronics, working on cars, just pretty much working with my hands way too much to not be able to see anymore. Plus I like to be able to drive, thats pretty nice too.

Besides, noises bother me sometimes.

Deaf hands down. I have a ringing in my ears and it drives me insane anyways.

Everything I love requires me to see. I feel bad for saying that because you really are going blind. :frown:

What a tough question.  Either way, a lot is lost, in terms of the senses.  I would rather go deaf, because I have no idea how I'd find my way around if I was blind.  I don't know how blind people do it, but I commend them.  It must be very tough not to be able to see anything.

As much as i love music, i think i'd rather be deaf. Vision is my dominant sense and being able to visualize stuff. Even if i was blind tho i'd deal with what i have. It would certainly be a trip having to adjust life and conscious experience to such an extent, i suppose that goes for any sense tho.

I'd much rather be deaf...at least i would be able to learn sign language and to read lips...the loss of sight would be much more problematic IMO.

definitely rather be blind. can you imagine never hearing a human voice again? never hearing anything again?

they've done a lot of studies on blind and deaf people and deaf people have way higher rates of depression.

i mean...never hearing music again? fuck that.

Not if they are blind from birth.

I chose deaf for sure. Ignorance is bliss, and I wouldn't know what I was missing with this whole music thing.

Losing my eyes... I can't imagine. I'd commit suicide (but I couldn't find the damm gun)

Deaf on the otehr hand...

Well now that I think about it, hearing is the most underestimated sense IMO. Sounds are everywhere but we kind zone it out.. we hear but never listen.

Im pretty sure going from hearing to deaf is as tragic as going blind

I'd personally much rather be deaf. You'd still be able to see all of the beautiful things in the world (maybe even pay more attention), see your lover, see your food while you're eating, be able to do any kind of arts and crafts, read, and many other things.

Either deaf or blind it doesn't really matter, I don't think I can really enjoy life that much if I lose a sense (or a limb) . I put too much thought in what would I do and I think anesthesia.

Pretty weak but meh
