I've been wanting to ask you that for a long while now.

Quitting cold turkey or slowing down until a complete stop?
Slowing down is the best i experienced. It depends on how much you drink. If you really feel to much sick and an high heartbeat then you better slow down, not cold turkey. Know your body gets in protest which is not very healthy and even could get dangerous, but again,it depends on how much you drink. Always be carefull!
In the beginning i used''librium''the first week. After that I used ''Campral''333MG
I cant say a dose cause im not a doctor. It is a good advice to talk with your doctor when you stop an alcohol addiction.
The dosage i had was advised by my ''.''(Sorry i dont know how to call an person in english who helps addicted people and give them advice) I wish all of you succes with stopping alcohol,it is very hard to do but where is a will, there is always a way!
(sorry for my bad english grammar....)

Seems to make it a lot easier withdrawal-wise, though it can also be easy to just relapse and run out for a 6-pack after finishing your allotted two. You know how it is, once you've had one you want MORE. Being able to control that is a good skill to cultivate IMO.
i quit drinking cold turkey the day after halloween last year. was becoming too much of a fuckin wino (i loved my wine). got a family full of alcoholics on one side, a few addicts on the other. ain't worth it, imo.
been glad i stopped drinking. alcohol affects my mood in a negative way more than any other drug i've consumed.
now i just eat an edible from time to time and stick to the mushies when i can find 'em. feel pretty damn healthy all the time

yeah, i know what you mean. i had been pondering my alcohol consumption for some time before i quit. i took a mild dose of mushrooms and used that trip to specifically focus on the reasons behind why i drank.
i quit two weeks after that trip. psychedelics have helped me immensely

It is an well known medicine for stopping alcohol. It gave me an sort of rush like alcohol do, and it helped me to not thinking to much on alcohol.
It is an drug that helped me very good, every doctor know this medicine if you ask for it. Only an doctor can prescribe it,or an addiction consulent like i had.

i remember one of my uncles was on a drug that made him become violently sick if he drank even a drop of alcohol. pretty extreme shit.

If your addiction is not so heavy then its better to stop without using it. But when it really get worst to stop then you always can think of using campral.
Succes with stopping alcohol! You will experience how much energy you get when you have the using of alcohol under control. Stopping is the first step, then you have to learn to take control over it. That step shall follow your whole life, and stopping was easy compared to that.
But i know you can, you have the will so there is a way.
Succes and good luck!

my uncle was basically trying to drink himself to death every night (consuming massive quantities of hard alcohol). for some reason, his liver never quit. he's still alive to this day and often drinks like a fish.
it's a really sad story.

he's in his early 50's. my dads side of the family is really fucked up. 10 siblings and only two of them aren't addicted to some form of drug (my dad and one of his sisters).
they are all really good people (kind hearts every one of 'em), they just got dealt a shitty hand in life and have never been able to forgive, forget and move on. breaks my heart when I think about them

Damn.... i feel real sorry for you and also for your uncle. When my niece born 2 years ago i became an uncle to. That letted me think i had to stop,or as minimum to only drink in the weekend and not like every day from morning to night 24/7. I tried it many times in the years, but hat was the strongest reason for me to stop since i really never could take it over my heart that my niece ever would see me as drunk as i was in that days.
I really hope your uncle will stop drinking, for him and for you and your whole family. It must really hurt you when you see your uncles like that because you love your family and wishes the best for them....

thanks for the empathy, you sound like a person with a lot of heart
i too have a couple of nieces and i'm glad they never saw me highly intoxicated. some people can enjoy a drink or two and then stop. my family and I are not able to do that.
