Dust contributing to contams?
    #14158242 - 03/21/11 07:55 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

I have quite a dusty house due to the fact that we have carpet everywhere. its not to bad in some areas i.e the kitchen but yeah just wanted to know if dust can contribute to easier contams

cheers

Yes.  Dust is a contaminant, since it's mostly dead skin cells and they're crawling with bacteria.  This is why we use a glovebox or laminar flow hood for inoculation.

And don't use your kitchen for any mycology work. It might appear clean, but it is one of the filthiest spaces in your whole house. Contaminants are microscopic. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there.

Bathrooms are usually fairly clean. Run a warm shower for a few minutes to bring the humidity up and cause dusts to drop out of the air. Sanitize your work area throughly with Lysol or 70% iso, and as RR points out in his videos, make sure to flame sterilize between each jar.
