Hello friends, I believe I may have a panaeolus foenisecii here but of course I dont really know. Im trying to practice IDs on my own.
Habitat: these were found on my neighbors lawn, well manicured, there was a large oak tree nearby (not sure if its relevant) and the mushrooms were growing in small groups and the groups were scattered throughout the area, it has rained quite heavily the past few days as well
Gills: medium brown with a slight lilac tint, the spacing is close, they are attached to the stem
Stem: about 8-10 cm in length, not really hollow but full of long fibers, pale brown and bruises to a buff brown and soon after dark brown
Cap: convex, almost hemispherical I guess, with an in-curved margin especially in age, color goes from buff brown in the center to a pale brown and finally darker brown at the margin, within a few hours of drying the entire cap is pale brown,
Spore print color: dark purple brown almost purple-ish black
Bruising: bruises a buff brown, and eventually dark brown
I smell latex again.
I apologize if my pics aren't great.

It has had the following names over the years:
http://www.speciesfungorum.org/Names/SynSpecies.asp?RecordID=265153
Most people call it Panaeolina foenisecii now instead of Panaeolus due to its roughened dark brown spores. However my analysis of the sequences available from genbank shows that it belongs in Panaeolus, which is not surprising since it tastes like a Panaeolus and there are other rough spored members of Panaeolus.

And I also would like to know if the genus panaeolus typically smells like latex or of its just me or the species of panaeolus/panaeolina I have come across?

Most mushrooms have been reclassified many times over the years.
