the slugs return! yeah!!
and the skunk cabbage blooms...
3-20-11 field trip... mixed woods - 51 F, partly sunny
Found a few intersting mushrooms today.
1) These were growing on the side of a dead tree
2) This was one of the bigger caps.. probably 2 inches wide...

and this is the under side
and 4) these.. were just odd looking.. could not tell if they were old from last year or... dark and thin... no real smell.. tree could have been a recent fall, but they were sticking straight up

Found probably a total of 13 different mushrooms. Saw two deer, piliated wood pecker, dark squirrel and a lot of birds who were enjoying the spring day. Noticed many were short, and most were small.

Thanks ryanth.... Always nice to be out
1 I think is marsaliellus sp.
Slug was about 4 inches... A baby! Skunk cabbage will produce a strong skunk Odor in about 2 weeks....

Blueing... You know, it could have but I think not. I recall that it had something odd about the base though. The photo of the cap was what you could see, and when I pulled, it came up like that, and I felt bad because I brought some mycelium with it...
There was another one just coming up next to it, could check it out next weekend...
One thing we have had this year, is a lot of downed trees... I notices that the local parks have been chipping them for mulch... Spotted a lot of Cyan potential sites.... Might inoculate them.... But there are lots... Give them a few years and Yeah man.
