A first time
    #14048171 - 03/01/11 12:07 PM (13 years, 4 days ago)

Nothing like the first time hehe
Im using PF tek/ BRF cakes

Inoculation accord 2/24. Its been some time since then, and im happy to finally be able to create this post. A wise man loves to be corrected, and im all for correcting mistakes.

I will be posting up dates here.

here are some up dates from today 3/1 -

I tried my best to get some clear images.

Colonization temp is 80F

The only light it receives is from a lamp in my room/ or my window-light from out side, when my closet door is open.

Also, I know this was probably a noob move, but redboy strain was used.
Iv often have herd penis envy glorified for PF tek. I assume its more than likely not an issue. Also, next week, im going to be ordering more syringes/ probably penis envy and what ever else, so no biggie. I can not wait to become self sufficient and create spore prints. Any how, thank you for any help, and guidance, I will more than likely need it along this journey of fungi growth =D

update - 3/15

Here are the jars. One jar was tossed due to contamination. I did not take a picture of it, as soon as it was found, it was tossed in the trash.

Also, I do realize this should be posted in the grow log section. Not sure how I made that mistake.

update -
3/22

The time is nearing. =)

One jar is still colonizing. Theres a tiny spot that has not been over run with mycelium yet.

updates - 3/26

Colonization temps? Light exposure during colonization?

Dry verm layer on top of the BRF as a contam barrier?

As a suggestion, get a spore print & make 10 syringes...then you'll have enough to wait till you get some fruits & be self-sufficient then.

Also, a cube is a cube...they're all the same, basically

Yea thats pretty much what I assumed/read, that a cube is a cube. Yes, I do have dry verm on top as a contaminate barrier. The temp is 80F.

for light exposure, I just have them sitting in my closet on a shelf. So, I guess any light that gets in there from my window/ the out side or my lamp. I can move them any were to let them sit if needed.

As soon as a get a spore print I will make the syringes. Thank you for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Yours seem to be colonizing twice as fast as mine!  I'm very jealous.

What temperature do you have them colonizing at?

I realize it may be a lil different than the room temp because its in my closet near the ceiling.

Its exactly 80F were my jars are sitting at.

updates -

A few other jars also have small pinning.

3/20

It has been around 3 and half weeks. Im thinking of letting them sit for another 3 and a half days, or should I birth them now?

Iv'e only had one contamination! I'm a very happy man.

Nothing says "I'm ready for birth" like jar pins. Go ahead and birth any that are pinning. You don't always have to go by the calendar if you have particularly favorable conditions and full colonization. As long as they hit 100% colonization and are given an extra 5-7 days afterwards you can birth them without fear.

Dunk, roll & birth.

Pins in PF jars are the best sign for 100% colonization, IMHO.

If you've got some slow rollers, let them do their thing & birth the ones that are ready. You'll have a nice stagger to picking. I feel as though it's a huge PITA to pick a bunch of mushies at the same time. I prefer my stuff to happen 3-4 @ a time rather than everything @ once.

That way, everything is spaced out. Drying, scraping dry shit off the roots, etc...

That is good news. I felt it was only best to ask and post on shroomery before making any moves even if I feel I do not need to. Better safe than sorry eh? hehe. 4 out of 9 are pinning. Most certainly I feel excitement about this and am anticipating to take pics of/ see the fruits when the time comes.

I hope mine are spaced out then also. That does sound allot nicer to take things slow to get every thing situated and took care of. I need to go out and buy a food dehydrator sometime soon. I take it you dry out smaller amounts of your product at a time versus all at once? I mean if you personally use a food dehydrator.

Well...Sometimes you end up getting overloaded anyways...like this first flush:

That's 3 tubs of MS PE6 @ a 1:1 ratio w/ coir+verm via Damion5050's Elementary Coir Tek. One of my tubs = 1/4 of a monotub, as I use 6 quart shoebox tubs ATM.

Turned out to be an extreme yield, didn't get much on the subsequent flushes, however. I think I spent the whole thing first flush.

But, overall, Yes I try to stagger my grows for my standard store bought dehydrator. I don't want to overload it. I find it dehydrates them better/quicker when not overloaded.  That pic above took about 56 hours to dry, too long IMO. I like the quick 18-24 cracker dry vs. 2-3 days...

I think it's amazing just how hard it is to find food dehydrators locally. Better luck with Craigslist than any store around here, and it's a huge city.

Walmart just has one model in the local store and it's a really shitty one. That's one reason I despise Walmart, zero variety.

:bigyesnod:  Wallyworld stocks the cheapest items they can buy in bulk = Cheap Shit from China. I don't buy anything but canning jars from Wallyworld. It's a bunch of BS that will break in the next 6 months. The only good thing is if you don't alter the original product, you'll get a full refund on it. I say "DO IT!!!" screw those bastards.

There is exposed mycelium/cakes. I think its from misting. I should add more verm to those places to cover them? That is what my first thought was of what to do.
