Mexican Mushrooms?
    #1414486 - 03/27/03 12:49 PM (21 years, 6 days ago)

I have long been a fan of pyslisibus cubinis (forgive the spelling) or what in laymen's terms we refer to as the Gulf Coast Magic Mushroom. I have had ample amount of experience with this but not with other strains of Shrooms. This summer I am going to Mexico to study for a little over a month. HAS ANYONE EVER TRIED SHROOMS SOUNTH OF THE BORDER? If so please give me some advice. What are they called? Where do they grow. How do I ask for them?
Thanks- an interested party.

Donde esta la Honguitos, los black negros.

I punblished maps here a few years ago for many species in Mexico, but the search engines are down.

AS for what they are called,
go to my site and read this book which is online free.

Ancient Shamanic Mushroom names of Mesoamerica and Other regions of the world.

http://mushroomjohn.com/names.htm

P/mexicana= parajitops (little birds)
P. caerulescens, Derrumbes. (landslide mushrooms)
P. cubensis, San Ysidro (Patron Saint of Agriculture).

Hongos, honguitos, ni?os, los negoros hongos,
etc.

mjshroomer and check with AIrdotg if he is around.

mj

Ther main shroom area is Palenquo for average tourist and Oaxaca for the serious collector.

However they are illegal there and some farmers will turn people in for looking for shrooms.

and

The most common name applied to mushrooms in traditional societies residing in Mesoamerica is the Mexican word nan?cate (mushroom). It is of Mexican origin as is the word "hongo" (mushroom, Spanish derivation). Nan?cate is derived from the Nahuatl name nan?catl. The common Indian word for nan?cate is she-to and kee-sho. Both are mis-spellings of the original word xi-tjo which implies "eruption of the earth".

Throughout Southern M?xico, different tribal groups employ words and phrases which describe the sacred mushrooms used in traditional healing and curing ceremonies; many which are of Spanish origin: hongo (mushroom), honghi (mushroom), hongos (mushrooms), honguito's (little men), honguillos negros (little black mushrooms), duendes (the spirits), los ninos santos (the little saints), cositas (little things), durrumbe (landslide), paquenos (little ones), inebriating flowers, ntixti (dear little children), sasa (the clowns), and paquenos que brotan (little ones that spring [leap] forth).

There are known names for the Mayan shroomsbut because the Spanish conquistadors wiped out all of their historical records of everything not much is known.

There are words in the Mayan for Amanita muscaria..

However, according to Bernard Lowy, the children who sell P. mexicana to tourists call them parajitos (little birds). mj.

I will look the article up on guatamala and post it for you as soon as the shroomry has fixed itself.

Its al Pnubots fault.
