new grower with a 4lb bag of inoculated rye..

It's been about three weeks and it's looking pretty good and white. Been crumbling it up to keep it strong. I'm looking to get the highest yield out of this and I was thinking of following the sandman TEK and monotubing it with a verm/coir mix. Any suggestions/tips? Should I do something different?
Thanks in advance!
B+ by the way. gonna make a log of it

I disagree. Coir is much easier to pasteurize than poop. 1 brick of coir, 2 quarts of vermiculite, 0.5 quarts of gypsum. Boil 1 gallon of water and then dump it on the coir/verm/gypsum mix. Stir until evenly mixed, then let cool for about 5-6 hours. Use.

I think you only need to crumble once. Ive never done bag but with jars you only shake once around 20-50% to distribute the myc around. More than that will stall myc growth. Try to not massage it too much I mean.

Agreed about overmixing. I prefer coir, but if you can get free poo do it.

i shake jars at 20-30 percent, then when fully colonized i'll shake again 2 days before i plan on spawning.
the reason is, if you have trich, when you shake it will turn green with in the next day or two, if it doesn't and starts recovering you have healthy myc

Sounds good. I have read that the more you shake the more energy the myc spends trying to re-knit but I guess right before spawning sounds good. Just to be safe.

I have heard of this technique for the reasons you stated. I have also heard that it helps the myc recover "faster" after spawning into the substrate. By shaking a couple days before, the myc can catch up after being beaten around.

Well luckily I only crumbled it up once I guess
Any other opinions on the monotub?

you still can if you think it'll help colonize the rest. Just limit how many times you do that.

Monotubing will definitely be a better yield than just fruiting out of the bag though, right?

Although it may be possible to fruit the grain directly, I advise against this. I would spawn it to some substrate (coir, verm, gypsum, hpoo, what have you) either in some trays or in a monotub setting. Layer the spawn with the pasteurized substrate. I would only use trays if you are planning on making an SGFC, and a large one at that. To be quite honest, 4 lbs of colonized rye could easily make two pretty large monotubs. I would go with that.

That's exactly what i'm thinking of, doing a coir/verm mix. Trying to figure out what size tubs I'm gonna use though. Any opinions on how far out to spread this 4lbs?
