[FL] Man Beaten, Robbed -- And Then Arrested For Pot
    #14153214 - 03/20/11 11:08 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Boca home invasion victim arrested for growing pot
March 19, 2011 - palmbeachpost.com

BOCA RATON — Home invasion was just the beginning of Dana Carvello's troubles.

The 34-year-old Carvello was arrested today after officers arriving on the scene of a forced-entry robbery at his Boca Raton home found a marijuana "grow house" in the garage.

When Boca Raton police officers arrived at 1599 SW 16 Street Friday night, Carvello said three to five men had approached him while he was on the back patio, hitting him on the head several times. The masked home invaders, who were armed with handguns, forced Carvello in the living room, tied him up, then forced his girlfriend Anita Molina and their four year old child into a bedroom. Carvello managed to escape to a neighbor's house.

Jewelry and a Nintendo Wii were taken. Carvello, who sustained head and face injuries, was treated at Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

It was when police were searching the home that they stumbled onto the garaged pot plants. Carvello told the police the pot was only for personal consumption, but the officers were unimpressed: They arrested Carvello and charged him with cultivation of marijuana and child neglect.

wow... That man just had the worst day of his life.
And its fucking dumb that you call the police to come and help you when you really need them and they arrest you for a plant. I go to school and live in an area where people get robed all around me constantly and my worst fear has been for a while what this man went through. I know if I got shot and my stuff got taken and the cops down here showed up and saw some weed in my apartment I would be taken to jail, so fucking wrong.

This is why you never call the police to help with a crime.  They always make it worse.

Child neglect?  Please.  I bet those fucking cops have plenty of alcohol in the fridge, is that child neglect as well?

Cops can't help what the law is, don't blame then for enforcing it. Get out and vote to change the law.

That's true. Thing is, the cops aren't gonna find this guys stuff so calling them was useless.

That's not to say that this guy isn't a fucking idiot.  I mean, you got a grow op in your garage and you summon the cops to your home intentionally?  What a fucking moron.

Marijuana is illegal and the police cannot be involved.

This guy probably let these dirt bags into his house to sell them some weed.    and they made off with the dried weed, money the wii and the jewlery.          Write it off as a loss and find a safer way to deal with people.    Same shit happened to my friend.  He invited the police over to investigate a B&E and they saw seeds and stems around the house which gave them enough for a warrant.  THe warrant lead to the police finding my friends grow.

My friend knew The people that where involved in the B&E. HE also knew they where trying to break in to steal his weed, and his other fancy bobbles.

You need to practice your own law and lose many if your involved in illegal activity.

Never, ever, let police into a house used for Cultivation of Marijuana or Mushrooms, In case these people were not informed, they are trained to pick up on the smallest clue to get a search warrant to tare you're whole house apart.

Grow + Police In the House = No fucking shit you got busted.

Sucks for that guy though, It's total BS, But i guess that is how the cookie is crumbling these days.

Yes they can...its entirely their choice to become dogs of the law and enforce it.  No one put a gun to their head and threatened them to do it.

You can't just blame the law for the way the world is, they're just arbitrary words that humans have chosen to follow.  Any actual meaning they hold, is entirely our making.

My mom lost her purse once and called the police to investigate a theft since she did some garage sale that day. Well I had 3 plants openly growing in my room and with about 5 minutes notice of the officer arriving to my place I managed to just shove them in my closet and hope he couldn't smell for shit. It was horrible, didnt even have time to hide all my pipes, papers, bud, scale. Everything basically. He was in the house for like half an hour. I ended up FINDING the fucking purse in a fucking kitchen chair

Last indoor grow I did after that shit, keep it guerilla now. Even Stick a few in the d bag neighbors yards for lols.

I agree with this, in most towns in Maine even when weed was still rather illegal if you got pulled over and had weed on you the cops would let you go if it didn't look like you were selling, also an older man I know in Maine used to hold illegal drag races and he would tell the cops and they would just "avoid" that area of town for the night. Cops have a choice, they should not go ruining peoples lives when they should be out to help, sadly most cops are power tripping assholes looking to ruin lives.

Who the fuck calls the cops for a forced entry armed robbery when you are growing pot?  This is stupidity on his part, you know the cops are going to wonder what the hell you have that would make someone want to rob you at gunpoint, and they are going to snoop around.  First rule of being a criminal is to not trust the police, they are out to fuck you over and will do it any chance they get.

In a lot of states like Cali and WA, it only says an officer MAY arrest someone for weed. It doesnt say they have to.

If you mean by votes, cops have as much weight as you or I in the matter.  Though, lobbyists have more...and I'm not entirely optimistic upon relying on a broken system to fix itself.

Either way, laws don't wield power (Over others), humans do (That was my point).  How someone reacts to them, is entirely their choice, and just doing their job is not a good enough justification to inflict needless harm.  Not for North Korean soldiers, not for soldiers in the Libyan army, and not for American police officers.  It'd be like blaming a gun for murder when a human pulled the trigger.

You can't call the cops though.  Most growers don't but they do take the law into their own hands or they get screwed.  Growers only get screwed until they snap.  And once they do they are a force to be reckoned with.  They typically start watching their stuff and if anyone comes by the growers do their job as well.  Scary shit.  Still have nightmares about the stories.  Bodies dissolved in plastic boxes, dead rippers stripped, smashed, and buried under plants that will never be harvested...  I hope it is legalized so this stuff doesn't need to happen over greed, conflict, and a leafy plant.

Hemp is a grain plant with a plentiful and nutritious seed, there is no reason it should be illegal.  It is stupid.

I agree but until then people will still be growing pot in their homes.  It isn't legal yet in Cali for medical use but will be soon if we speak up!

The only time I would call the cops, ever, is if someone I loved went missing. Any other case I don't need or want them around me.
