want to warn people about his piece of shit. ive used it for pcing about 10 times total without problems, but today i used it to boil some water without the lid on it.
well later i went to put the lid on, and it doesnt fit because it expanded and now the slots are out of place.
what a waste of money, guess i have to drop like 200 on an all american now.

thats odd, because i have an old one, that i have used for about 5 years, and its wellllllll older than that when I got it.. sounds like the one that you got is just a bucket..
and only a fool will spend that much.. get a used one.. ebay, craigslist, secondhand and thrift stores, garage sales.. plenty of options, and you can usually find them for less than 50 bucks

yeah.. i have no idea how it would have warped.. they take way more heat with the lid on..
maybe it wasnt a real presto? like, maybe it was a knock-off?

I have used my presto's For well over a hundred runs by now. I have relpaced the gasket on one of them once. I also use them for a multitude of other things, soaking/cooking/mixing and they have been fine.
You must have gotten a bad one.
quality control in china must be slipping....

not a knock off, bought it brand new.
it worked fine with the lid on, im figuring that the lid would keep the top from expanding when i PCed, obviously, but with the lid off it had nothing to keep it in its position.

You put the lid on cold after the pot was boiling?

metal expands when its hot, so hot bottom will be larger then cold top...
once cool check back more then likely will fit perfectly fine

Yup. I love my presto. 10 quart jars at once is very nice. I have a little cheapo 4 quart 10 psi PC too. I definitely like my presto. The pressure gauge works very well too.

Warranty, price, quality [Re: wisdom187]

Which model is it? The 23qt advertises as warp resistant aluminum, besides, doesn't it have a 12 year warranty? I was under the impression that they sell the 23qt (the deeper one) so that people could use it to boil in (submerged jars).
I've been operating an old tank from the 30's that has a small chip in the bottom and have been eye'ing the Presto 23qt as a replacement before something bad happens. On the surface, for the price and warranty, it seems that it can't be beat.
I'd love to get one of the AA's but, from what I've seen, they carry only a 1 year warranty and a hefty price. I hope I'm incorrect about the warranty on an AA because they are prudy, American made, and I'd like to think that an American company would would stand by its product. I'm not putting it down, I understand that the warranty would probably never be needed and they would more than likely replace it even if it were out of the warranty period (if it was obviously a manufacturing defect).
I hope this works out for you.

I have 3 prestos and they've been through all sorts of abuse...no complaints from me. you're not heating it over a torch outside or anything strange are you? did it fit after it cooled down?

the presto PCs can be compared to this..
**for all DJs in the house
these things will take a fucking beating.. and last forever.. almost like cast iron pans.. hand-me-downs rock..
same with the Technics MK1200.. I have seen techs that are 20 years old, that keep perfect time, and you can set a fucking toddler on the deckplate and spin the kid.. haha..
but yeah.. did it fit upon cooling? just please dont spend 200 bucks on a new PC, when good used ones are everywhere

One thing to remember is the old Prestos were made in USA and high quality. The same can't be said of the current chinese imports. They're half the price of an AA, which lasts forever. That makes the latter much cheaper in the long run. RR

just to clarify, im not stupid. i just put it on my stove to boil 4 quarts of water.
i let the bottom cool down when i tried to re apply the lid.
its completely off, the metal pieces that are supposed to interlock are offset about a quarter inch. \
i bought it brand new so does that mean i have a warranty?

If you cooled the metal using water or some other means other than letting it air cool naturally, that will also warp steel permanently. I used to get angry with my wife when she would pour tap water on our hot cookware. Lo and behold, now we have a bunch of kitchenaid cookware that has all rounded bottoms.

this is no fault of my own i can assure you. i didnt do anything to warp it. i know the rules of expansion and heat and rapid cooling and everything else.
