Avoiding Contam while Cutting Cakes
    #14153139 - 03/20/11 10:53 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Wondering what tools I should use to cut and dunk and roll my cakes to avoid contamination. Flame a butter knife for a bit and let it cool? Spray a knife with lysol??

if its fully colonized, you wont have to worry.. if you are really paranoid, then just get a knife, was it well with soap and water, then rub alcohol on it.. just a simple clean knife will suffice.. fully colonized substrates dont contaminate too easy..

Thankyou! Another question so I dont have to make a new thread..

I need some tips on how to maintain the roughly 78 degree prime temperatre of my fruiting chamber. Ive been taking temp readins around my house the last few days and havent found a room thats average temperate isnt above 70 degrees. Any advice? Thanks alot!

-M

dont keep it there.. room temp... this is like, a daily question.. lol..

it doesnt need to be above 70.. my house has been FREEEEEEZZZZIIINGGG, and all my jars colonized lightning quick..

so yeah.. you dont need to worry about temp.. room temp is perfectly fine.. no problem

Oh i know they will colonize at lower temps but i mean for fruiting. I dont have a room in the house that gets over 70 degrees and I thought 75-85 was ideal for fruiting

doesnt matter.. higher temps can help for fruiting and myc growth, but its not needed, and its not really that much slower.. im about to fruit in my house, as well.. im doing the spawn run right now, and there is no doubt in my mind that they will fruit with no issues.. my house doesnt get over 70, either.. like I said.. freezing.. 111 year old house, no heater.. and everything is moving along just fine.. dont worry about the temp.. i would be worrying about RH and FAE more than temp, as lacking in one, the other, or both, then that is where you will start to see problems..

PS: its only been 17 days since I started, from spore, and im already more than half way done.. 2 weeks until the first flush.. start to finish - 1 month.. you will probably only save a couple of days, at the most.. not really worth it.. just be patient, and keep it simple..
