what? hahaha.. you can case a bulk tray..
I think you mean, is it cased or not cased.. at this point, it looks like its just during the spawn run, so even if casing were going to applied, its not even time for that yet.. unless the OP cased it, and thats all overlay.. haha

i meant did the OP case straight grains or mix grains into a bulk sub but i guess the term "spawned" answers that question.
5 days and nearly full colonization? what was the spawn to sub ratio?

still doesnt really make sense.. a "casing" is not the whole tray.. it hasnt been cased yet, so even still, you couldnt call it a casing.. a casing is just a layer on the top, and even then, you dont even need casing at all.. calling a tray a "casing" is a misnomer..

haha ya it's on the spawn run i believe. been setting at 72-76 mazatapec strain. wbs to coir/verm. got 14 of these 12qt trays going, if it stays as beautiful as it has been i have no doubt me and my friends will have a fantastic summer! went 1/4 ratio so it's not colonizing the fastest , but i'm very happy with the results of my efforts thus far. the trays were just walmart 12qt's *fits my gh optimally* with foil around the outside taped tight to prevent side pinning. The 5 gallon bucket 170degree water method was used to pasteurize. my first grow just finally quit producing fruits a few days ago and i ended up with about 5.25oz from 12 1/2 pint pk tek jars. this is my first attempt at casing/bulk whatever you want to call it. my terminology gets abit fuzzy due to excess reading lol. as far as casing it in a few days i do have one slight problem.....all the shops just got verm in and it instantly sold out so i'm waiting on the trucks to show up. in the meanwhile if it's time to put in the fc and i don't have it what kind of ratio's would be suggested from these materials... crushed lime, peat moss, oyster shells. i was assuming it'd be mostly peat moss with the lime and shells for the ph balance, however this will be my first casing. Thanks for your support guys, you really know how to make a guy feel good about his efforts. Much love.

Are you saying that try has been colonizing for 6 days? That is NUTS! Looks beautiful.

what kind of fruiting chamber are you using? you dont need a casing at all.. i like to use them.. but you dont need them
also, you dont need to add all that extra stuff for casing.. keep it simple.. a simple 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch thick layer of moist vermiculite, nothing else, will work great for a casing.. screw all the peat moss and whatnot, if you dont already have it.. straight verm casings are soooo easy, dont tend to overlay, work perfectly..

I would just go with the wax paper as a casing, but to each his own.

cool, thanks for the detailed response
i hear ya about all the reading and getting terms confused lol. from what i've read a casing isn't entirely necessary but if done correctly can be beneficial.
i just spawned my first grains to a coir monotub at a 1:2 ratio 5 days ago so seeing the progress of your trays almost makes me want to peak lol. i've been holding out for the 10 day mark

yeah.. i just like them.. idunno.. I just seem to get better results with a casing layer.. but they grow just as well without.. I using peat/coir in my casing layers, simply because i feared the green menace, heard from a friend to try straight verm, and loved it, and never heard from the green guy again.. lol

that works, as well.. the first time i saw that was on a monotub, and it worked out well for that person.. i have never really tried it, but i have seen it do the job..

ya i waited as long as i could to peek lol. also i already have lime/peat/oyster shells. that's why i asked what a decent ratio for that would be. as far as my chamber.... it's a closet gh, with a coolmist inside and ultrasonic piped in. 2 6500k 4ft bulbs above it on a timer of 12/12. at the bottom of this thread
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14101460
i have pictures of my setup, it's been tuned more since then however the perlite tubs are still in there. i've been fanning the entire gh about 3 times a day now, upped from 2. maintaining 80-85% rh with practically nothing in it Schwagstock will be fun this year *or at least cheaper* lol.

if you are running a cool mist, then you shouldnt need to fan it.. the cool mist does that for you..
if you can keep it up around 85 with nothing in it, then when you add the trays, it should bump it up..
i had a martha before, and i just ran my cool mist 24/7, outside of it, with 6 trays in it.. RH kept at a constant 95%, with FAE going on constantly.. it did really well for me. I was going to do that, but i just couldnt find the stuff for it, so i just grabbed a couple of tubs.. lol.. i can still fit the same amount of trays in there, so that is kosher..
cant wait to see your finished product.. giggity

i fan it due to it being in a closet, i open the gh door and closet door and fan the entire area. just an extra precaution.

i wouldnt worry too much about that.. just opening the door once per day should be more than enough.. you dont need to fan the closet.. lol.. as a matter of fact, fanning air from outside of your closet, directly into your GH, is probably going to get you a contam when you start fruiting.. let your cool mist do the work.. that is what its there for..

FYI, my closet GH has a coolmist piped in, and no ultra sonic (not yet, re-designing my setup next month) but If you check out my sig, all the info is in there. I dont fan at all, and mist heavily 3 times a day at least.
I also have plenty of porn on that post to show the results!
But you can never have too much FAE! If you have the time then you might as well give the extra love and fan MOAR

my ultrasonic quit working within 2 weeks. it was piped in, i went and got a replacement and in the meantime i had double checked my hygrometer and realized i had never calibrated it...once calibrated i now know that my gh stays at 98% with JUST the coolmist. so for the time being i haven't hooked the ultrasonic back up. funny thing....somehow i think i have a little tear in the gh somewhere bc when i went in there yesterday the floor was poofed up from the coolmist's air flow.... i guess i'll be able to see setting water much easier now lol. after this crop imma layer a few more pieces of plastic on the floor.
