in every social hierarchy the territorial only accept you if:
1. you don't give a fuck and so you accordingly assume a dominant position by just not caring to submit to anyone
2. you appeal to their ego's and honor their position in the hierarchy
while 1. is just doing your thang, if your desire is to rise up the social ladder (which it most likely is if you give a fuck in the first place unless you are just intimidated of getting beaten) then 2. is just you playing social games to maintain the illusion of civility with others while secretly trying to rise above them.
if you do not appeal to ape's egos in the hierarchy they will become furious with you which may be rationalized as you being this or that insult/label but really its just them getting territorial over their standing. so they may get in your face and REALLY get ape-mode territorial threatening your perceived threatening with violence OR they may just engage in social games to bring you down and try to smear your image to tarnish your standing which they would probably get a kick out of since in their head it makes them feel like you are a punk for trying to challenge their spot.

We are not apes, bro. We are human beings. There's a huge difference. We have choices that apes do not have. We can choose to tame our egos and instincts, while apes can not.

Totally. So we can transcend our ape nature but it's still gonna be there.

There are ways of leapfrogging through the social hierarchy that doesn't require appealing to just about anybody's ego. I don't see a strict up and down hierarchy, more like just a network, where some people have more gravity than others. And it's pretty worth it to not give a fuck, because giving a fuck socially is a waste of time honestly, it'll either come or it won't you shouldn't fret.
