Cannabis is not addictive
    #14151467 - 03/19/11 11:31 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I've smoked weed for a long time. I smoked for a couple years when I was young and quit. I mean even after smoking weed daily for 5+ years, the only effects I had after quitting were better vision; or at least it appeared so.

Regardless all I can say is anyone who does lots of drugs under 18 opinion doesn't matter to me. You aren't an adult, you are irresponsible and don't know jack shit about life.

You didn't need to go and create your own thread.  Keep this argument in the other one already going.

I smoke weed quite frequently and plan on quitting soon. I don't think I will have any problems.

Sorry about the poor grammar; thanks for really thinking about my post before responding!

i smoked heavily for years and when i quit i had trouble eating and sleeping. felt off for a day or two. definitely not in the least bit addictive though. like, it's not as if my brain chemistry became accustomed to the supplemented cannabinoids and adjusted accordingly, resulting in mild withdrawal. just typing that made me feel ridiculous.

What's always bugged me about people claiming that cannabis is addictive is the idea that "urge to get high" counts as a sign of addiction.

If some one likes smoking weed enough to have trouble not smoking it, obviously they will have a craving/urge to get high after cessation.

The only signs of 'addiction' I've ever experienced, or heard of others experiencing, are signs of stress from dealing with the real world with out being stoned.
You could get the same effect from living in an ocean side town for a while and only being in a good mood from then on when you're in a climate that has humid, salty, warm air.

or any other fucking pleasant situation in life  :oldman:

Edit: this DEFINITELY deserves its own thread. Not sarcasm. I don't wanna post in the other thread because I don't want to sit around arguing about it, I just wanna discuss it with people who are already on this track and might have other ideas to express about it that I haven't thought of.

well, as long as we're being sincere...cannabis, if used frequently and heavily has potential to alter the users brain chemistry to the extent that when the user stops, their brain will go through a period of shock while it balances itself which results in restlessness, irritability, nausea and insomnia.

what i'm talking about is a physical dependence that's been created by over supplementation of a naturally occurring chemical in our bodies. your body needs it. it usually produces its own but if its being supplemented, why maintain production?

most people seem to think addiction means that people are fiending for their drug of choice, stealing from anyone they can in order to get high.

some drugs create a physical dependence so strong that when a users body is getting low on whatever they are ingesting they are so compelled to get more and feel better that they will fiend and steal.

cannabis is not one of those drugs. however, there is potential for addiction/physical dependence and a mild withdrawal phase.

:jah:damn right..

i only see a problem with kids/adults that don't take responsibility and live off of someone else while laying around high all day...other than that,"addiction" isn't an issue unless you are a thief.

Addiction is a personality trait.

Smoking weed has become ritualized in our society.

Ritualization in society can become a habit to that society, good or bad doesn't really matter.

Habits can become addictive.

Ultimately it is a case based upon the individual or group, not the ritual or the medium.

Ah I just couldn't stand it anymore. The OP was a total asshole in my opinion. He spends all his money on pot and complains about it being addictive. Fuck man cocaine is a lot more "addictive" and I like it 1000000000000000 times more then weed and I only do it perhaps, once a year; if that.

If you have a problem with any drug, you are the problem. You can play the blame game, I used too. The government shouldn't let the drugs be available, blah blah blah. Nah, own up to your own bullshit. Drugs don't control you, you control your drug usage.

People claiming to be powerless to drug addiction are pathetic. Anyone who claims to be is mentally weak and honestly, I'm glad they are more likely to die soon. Mentally weak people are pathetic. You have to be strong to survive, and it ain't physical strength that is required more and more in our society. As time goes on, and machines do more and more of physical jobs, their will be no room for the mentally weak.

I consider anyone who blames drugs for any problems a child. I don't care how old you are. You are a little baby. I often consider some 60-70 year olds children. Given the lack of responsibility many people have, its more then fair to treat them like that. You don't get my respect unless you at least take responsibility for your shit. If you accept that, the rest just comes; the knowledge.

To people that blame others for personal issues, you need to grow up. It isn't easy to be responsible, to be an adult. You gotta earn that respect for yourself, have to earn it from people who've worked for it. This life isn't free, wake up.

I think it depends on the person not the drug. Every drug has the potential to be addicting according to the person. For example, my parents have smoke for at least 30 years now and they can't quit. They have tried. It's a part of their life style. A person with a strong will and a want to give up the drug will, but a person who lacks a strong will or does not want to truly quit won't be able to, or at least not as easily. I myself am 18 and have been smoking for about 3 years on and off. Recently I have been using it to help me sleep and eat after some medical issues. Now that the issues are better I can't sleep or eat as well when I don't have weed. I think its because I'm so used to using it.

With that being said I really hope you can keep an open mind and see my point of view (and the views and opinions for many others) because obviously, everyone seems to have a different opinion about if weed is addictive or not. Because I believe its not the drug, its the person. And honestly, anyone who can not see that, or at least take the views of other people into consideration is a very closed minded person. For someone to say weed is absolutely not addictive is like me saying 30 degree weather is not cold. Thats my opinion. I don't get cold easily because I'm used to it and not sensitive to it like some other people are. Everyone has there different reasons and opinions. No one person can say something is absolutely is or is not something. Everyone is different and very few seem to respect that.

And I would expect more of an open mind from an older person. But what do I know, right? I'm  just a kid. I haven't learned or grown from any of my experiences in life. Maybe when I'm an old grumpy-ass like you I'll understand.

If you're not an adult you're irresponsible. Speak for yourself dude, I was a way more responsible kid than most adults I know now. You don't have a problem with weed congrats. Your problems seem far worse.
