What is Europe's mushroom capital???
    #1414978 - 03/27/03 06:18 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I read the posts from all the Americans fighting it out over whether Florida or Washington is the mushroom capital, but what are some of the best spots in Europe and Asia? I may be spending a good deal of time in Russia or Kazakhstan in the future so I am extremely interested in this question.

In 30 years or so I have never heard of anyone fighting it out over the PNW or Florida being the shroom capital. However one thing we get int he PNW every fall is that local radio stations and the newspapers always announce that the magic mushroom season has begun.

Read my newsclippings at my web-site where hundreds of people were tiocketed in the early 1970s for trespassing for shrooms. Not even Florida got that kinda recognition.

WE had heli[copters on a daily basis with bullhorns telling people to leave fields because they were in their by the hundreds from Bandon, Oregon to British Colombia oin every weekend and after school.

Mushroom grow more profusely inthe Northern hemisphere.

There really is no mushroom capital in Europe but in the fall is the season., The baltics are a good location for shrooms. Romania and Mother Russia are excellent shroom worlds. It was Europeans who loved shrooms and Westerners who genrally disliked them.

China probably has the most since they are the largest country over there. But little is know since they have not really been an open country. ASis consume the most shrooms in a year worldwide..

Thats where Paul Stamets and 30 other mycologists went to learn the Chinese methods for spawn production.

Switzerland which is high int he Alps has many local Mushroom clubs and open shroom marketplaces evry fall. But so do most European cities have same every spring adn fat is seasonal though in the northern hemisphere becasue of the lang cold snowy winters. Somthing that Seattle never has. WE have onky had a few days of snow period in the last six years of so.

mj,
ALl of those countries have big mycological clunbs and charge for forays to go picking.

Heck, thats what David Auroa, Stamets and Even I do eery years. Even Gary Lincoff charges pickers to pick edibles. And so do many PNW shroomers who collect edibles.

I know that mushroom hunting is extremely popular in Russsia, just don't know how many of these hunters are psychedelically inclined.

Mushroom grow more profusely inthe Northern hemisphere.

That is because there is simply more land mass in the northern hemisphere in the temperate zone, no?

I wonder how China deals with mushrooms? I know that they make the DEA look like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood when it comes to hard drugs, sort of like Singapore in that respect. Totalitarian regimes don't want their subjects expanding their minds.

WHile psuychedelic shrooms are not used in China, the chinese are aware of the propeties of some. Fronm the 2nd century A.D. in The Han dynasty tere are references in some her4bal index to, "Cures for the laughing sickness." an obvius re3ference to those afflicted from eating laughing mushrooms.

D. Arora found P. cyanesce3ns in Chinma.
