Adding more brf to substrate???
    #1414878 - 03/27/03 05:39 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

My friend was sitting in class and he got an idea to add more brf and less vermiculite when preparing some substrate for Pf jars, would this work better in providing nutrients to the mushies and would this affect the moisture the cake could hold???

My friend always adds a little extra water...Mycelium loves water! He follows this recipe:

1/2 cup verm
1/4 cup brf(but add just a little more)
2.3oz (just over 1/4 cup) water

Works great!

With the extra brf it can become a clumpy "mud" mass that is hard to penetrate by mycelium. A long time ago I messed up the recipe and added to much brf (was doing too many jars and couldn't count hehe) and it didn't turn out too well.

Too much water has a similar effect, 500 ml seems to work best with pf jars.
