this is somewhat of an offbeat question , but here goes ...  i have an old and stupid dog that has always insisted on running in circles and pissing on absolutely everything he can { including my lovely cacti collection }
he is too old and stupid to learn not to do this by way of a beating , is there any chance this form of cacti watering can harm my plants ?  ive seen the mongrel wiz twice on the same plant within an hour , i dont know if the bastard is doing this all day or just putting on a show for my "benifit" any similar experiences out there ?

Salt and/or nitrogen burn is something to watch for if it consistently happens in the future, but otherwise it's not really an issue. You might put up some hardware cloth or chicken wire.

Yeah, nitrogen burn is probably all there is to worry about.

One thing I recommend to clients who have dogs that piss on the lawn and cause necrotic patches is to dilute where the dog has peed with water, just use a watering can and pour water over the area. This is usually enough to stop the area from dying off. You could try this if it becomes an issue.

Paint some 2x4's green and plant two for every trich, it should reduce their pee exposure to 1/3 :wink:

That or keep the dog away from them.

I don't think it's that simple. It depends at which direction the dog is approaching from. If the dog is approaching the board from a 90 or -90 degree angle, it will be fairly obvious it is not a cactus, because it will 2" thin. And seeing that there is a 50% chance the dog will approach from this angle, that means that the rate will not be 1/3, but actually twice. It will only be reduced to 2/3. Still, it's better than nothing.
