You need to send it to Nigeria to get it fixed.

I had one of these calls once. I just acted stupid because I knew what was happening. I tagged this indian fella along for about 20 minutes before he screamed "Fuck you!!!11!!!" down the phone and hung up. I lolled.

i played along to much mayhaps! i gave them remote access but they just showed me some shit in the cmd prompt and it confirmed at the bottom that my warranty was expired and corruption was at 97.0 something percent... (this shit just interests me to begin with... so i didn't mind investigating) i ended the conversation afterwards cause he wanted to line me with product and get cash and i knew then i wouldn't be picking up these calls... but one question

if i went to this website... www.ammyy.com

and then that program to download there was to be installed... opened... and i had to click START; and got routed to an ip for remote access for that ONE time. would there be a possibility that they can still access my computer after the comp has been shut down and the program NOT reactivated? (and there is no way I can seem to find where that damn program is) or will i have to be wary of indian dudes named peter parker sneaking on my computer until i reboot it? :feelsbadman:

and in that case... is this fucking website a scam too? it looks legit.

Just send me your bank account and routing number and your social security number, then sit back and leave the rest to me. I'll fix that computer for you.

I will need to verify it's really you, so send your full name as well.

real smart there, cochise.

:pm:

now, what's a router number? do you think that you could actually help me, or are you just another fag that has no clue?

i mean, my problem here is done... i don't keep sensitive info on my computer... so... i don't really give a fuck. i just don't want to have my computer having data being munched by viruses and/or indians spying on me.

it's not like they can steal anything so dont' worry about that and actually come up with a reasonable conclusion to help me.

I've never heard of this, or Windows 7 itself with an expired warranty. I think the warranty on your computer itself expired and the hardware itself is going tits up. Sounds like they were just trying to get more money out of you.

What's a router (routing) number? And you ask if I have no clue?

Not at all.  Random foreigners always call me up and advise me about matters like these: once it was a computer that had problems, another time it was an important legal matter that required my urgent attention, and just last week the crown prince of Nigeria passed away and left me his fortune- had I not trusted the caller I wouldn't have even known I needed to pay the transfer fee!

You shouldn't be so suspicious, when people you don't know contact you and ask for money, its generally one-hundred percent a-okay

oh know that... lol i was just covering all my bases, here man.

as soon as i heard the words "my mom can get the premium package" after explaining how i can't deal with them, how i could only fix my computer with his help, because i had no money to replace my operating system... i was like yeah, this guys are just trying to show me something that would already be there, regardless of how "corrupted" my computer was.

oh well, it was kinda funny. he called himself peter parker and had constant trouble trying to get out sentances that required him to convince me of things. everything else was factual and well said but sometimes he'd be stuttering over a word like "I"... like I I... I...I can... I CAN TELL YOU SIR, JUST CLICK...!

If you think that's funny, just imagine how funny it would have been had you sent me the info I asked for.

Now that would be a hoot.

Um yes. It's called a rootkit or a backdoor. And there's a 99% chance it's still on your system.

You really installed a program that some random Indian guy told you to install?
Were you dropped on your head as a child?

Get your files off your computer. Reformat your computer. (Or at least a clean install of Windows.)
And learn from this.

What exactly is the problem?  Are you just upset at the ribbing, or is there something you need help with?

From my perspective, its difficult to advise anything except the conservative approach of resinstalling your operating system to a fresh state and then reinstalling all your programs/data.  Without knowing percisely what you installed or did, there's really know way of advising you except to think in worst possible terms- and these dictate reinstall.

From google'd info, it appears ammyy is a scam to get you to buy services from them for possibly nonexistant problems and shady fixes.  It does appear they aquire remote access to your computer, and yes, I would guess that they quite possibly continue to have remote access to your computer if you allowed it once.

What I would do is:

a) tell us what operating system you have
b) if windows, search for the ammyy program and uninstall it if possible through control pannel and uninstall programs.  Also see if windows itself shows any configured remote connections through control panel (windows 7 you can see this through control panel>RemoteApp...)  I would assume even if this doesn't show anything that you might still be infected.  You might also wish to do a system restore to a point prior to when you were infected at this point if you don't have any installe dprograms or stuff that would be endangered by such (hopefully you have backupts anyways).
c) download and run malewarebytes malware scanner (mostly spyware) and either report the results here or handle it yourself if you feel able.  Superantispyware and spybot also provide some good spyware scanning, but none of these will ensure your computer is clear of viruses, trojans, et cet
d) get a good antivirus scan of your entire computer.  Several online companies offer this via online scan, such as Panda Antivirus, Kapersky, Trend Micro, et cet.  I'd run several and provide any hits here or handle it yourself.  If using windows, also try running windows defender scan from the control panel option
e) I would run some anti-rootkit detectors as well, though I don't know much about these.  I know Sophos has one, as do plenty of other companies.  Some programs you may wish to keep may also be revealed (DRM if you want that sorta thing).
f) update windows and your browswer and any email client you use or have installed (microsoft outlook, mozilla thunderbird, et cet)
g) consider changing any passwords you have saved on your computer or in your browser.  Probably best to change all of them, but your call

Posting any results here or anywhere may have privacy implications, obviously, but people will help if able.

I'm not the most knowledgeable at these things, and I'm sure you can find people better and smarter, but I'll help if I can.
