covering casings
    #1414619 - 03/27/03 04:00 PM (15 years, 26 days ago)

Normally when my friend cases his trays he would put two pieces of saran wrap that would overlap each other. he would then spread the two pieces apart two fan/water/etc. however, now he's in college And is a bit worried about the sanitary conditions of his room. he put his two trays into A larger plastic tray he used to bring his clothes up to college in the beginning of the year. now he's uncertain if he should take off the sarAn wrap and leave the two trays inside of the larger one with its own top on, or leave them inside with the saran wrap still on and the top of the tray on top of that. any suggestions?

You know your sanitary conditions better than we do. Take the precautions that you feel are necessary.

well there are other things he is concerned about besides sanitation. the saran wrap combined with the lid of the larger tray will trap even more CO2 and humidity then just the saran wrap itself. can this be avoided simply by a bit more fanning? im thinking that maybe just the lid should be used because the trAy itself was cleaned rather thoroughly and the casings will only have to be exposed to the air briefly during fanning. a bit of lysol should make the air sterile enough for that. i guess the main concern is the effect of storing the trays with essentially two tops. will this hold in too much humidity and CO2?

My friend does not think a double covering as you described would cause a problem so long as you fan regularly.

thanks for the replies. the reason he's not using tin foil is because he wants to initiate pinning. the lids of the trays were left on for some time and now he has removed them to allow light in and CO2 out.
