Although I'm not quite sure how to tie this in to philosophy except to say it's a great antidote to the fear of death. Or seeing death as a negative.
Also surprisingly and in very interesting fashion human death anxiety rears it's head in a most surprising and vivid way.
All in all one of the best science documentaries I've seen. http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Death_by_Design_The_Life_and_Times_of_Life_and_Times/70033351?trkid=496624#height1586

Whenever I clicked on that link, there was a couple next to the tv and the tv said "Streaming instantly..."
Why the ellipses then? Why the red screen at all? Oh right, because its not instant, it takes like a minute.
PS I don't have a netflix account, sorry.

Peter Friedman and Jean-Francois Brunet's unusual 1995 documentary, which has won accolades the world over at various film festivals, attempts to demystify cell structure. Aided by microcinematography, the movie gets under the skin, so to speak, of the body's building blocks and references classic movies and other postmodern influences to share the intricate details of a very scientific -- and fascinating -- tale.

It's really cool vid imo but I'm not well studied in the science of cells and how they operate. What was interesting is one of the main reasons some of these scientists think cell death was not recognized as the critical factor that it was for so long was human psychological death anxiety. I was not expecting them to go there. But that was just an aside in the video.

I skimmed through it and must have missed that part. I admit that when they explained how the fingers actually separate I was surprised.
Makes sense though.
Also the part where the lady was talking about signals and comparing commands between cells and her commands for her sheep dogs was interesting. Seems life at every scale is just variations on a theme.
IMO You could spend a long time pondering the concept of the "individual"...which is built of 10 trillion cells but somehow generates singular identity.
Life trips me out dude.

cell death seems to be as important as cell life. A cell will die without signals from other cells to stay alive and when the other cells signal it to die it basically kills itself. Death seems to be very important to life in the form it is in.

OK I know that doesn't quite fit.
I saw in that other thread where you told Tony you're pretty sure there's a link here...but you can't figure it out quite yet. Can you elaborate?

Too bad it's the best deal for ten bucks I've ever gotten online.
Try the video store or some other online source.
