Judge sentences "Jimmy the Henchman"
to 75 years
March 18, 2011 - wnyt.com
FORT EDWARD - Scott Thorpe refers to himself as "Jimmy the Henchman" in
video that he shot of himself interrogating Michael Benway over a drug
debt.
"Yeah, it's me, Jimmy the henchman, I'm here with Mr. Benway whose
about to pay the toll," Thorpe can be seen saying in the recording.
Thorpe was found guilty of kidnapping, torturing and trying to kill
Benway last April over 11 pounds of marijuana Benway stole from him.
Thorpe learned his fate Friday afternoon.
"It's clear to me that you are devious, depraved, and dangerous,"
acting Washington County Judge John Hall told Thorpe.
Judge Hall asked the 38-year-old Thorpe if he had anything to say.
Thorpe said witnesses who were intimidated by police, perjured
themselves.
"I don't feel that I received a fair trial and now I must pray to god
and Jesus for justice to prevail in the end," Thorpe said, after
carrying a Bible into the courtroom.
The judge sentenced Thorpe to 75-years in prison for hatching and
carrying out his evil plot.
"He got a camera, he had ropes, he organized to have these accomplices
to help him out. The viciousness with which he planned this," said Hall.
"When you talk about viciousness, you're talking about an individual
who was the victim here that was prescribed aspirin as result of his
injuries," said Michael Martin, Thorpe's attorney. Nobody died here."
But the judge and the jury believed Michael Benway could have died when
Thorpe injected him with cocaine and speed after tying him up in
Thorpe's under-construction home in Hartford.
Before the trial began, Thorpe was offered a plea agreement which
would've sent him to prison for 12 to 20 years."
Judge Hall saying Friday that he was thankful Thorpe turned down the
deal because 75 years is more appropriate.
Martin says he plans to file a notice of appeal, perhaps as soon as
Monday.
Dude, I'd kill a motherfucker over a 3 pounds of weed, let alone 11. At 11 pounds I would probably buy expensive life support just to kill him several times.
