My friend had a contaminated GT cake, about 1.5 lbs, and was so sad to let it go, did not want to go to waste after all that wait to colonize, ordering supplies etc.. Couldn't leave the cake outside in a bush, and the weather was pretty cold anyway.

Was dunked in tap water for 12 hours, with some hydrogen peroxide, about 7 cl for 1 liter ratio . The contaminated part was then removed from the cake with a knife, cake was rinsed for 5 min, which left barely 200g of colonized substrate.
The mini-cake is then back in a used mycobag plastic bag for fruiting indoors. Room temp about 70-72 degrees. Bag is hidden behind a tv, getting some daily indirect light.
The mini cake recovered after 12 days, and some mini pins are starting to show.

About 3 times daily fanning + light misting: Pins are now starting to grow significantly bigger, some mutant one is appearing.

Within a week, mutant cap exploded, spores dropping already so it's time to harvest.

Glad that the cake was not discarded!
Total harvest : 180 g Big mutant: 77g Mini cake is now 160 g .. it was holding more than its own weight.
Back in for a 24 tap water dunk.

If you're into (lazy) growing with mycobags, keep your old spawn bag(s) to re-use as mini fruiting chambers in case in case you have contaminated cakes.

I know it should be thrown out to avoid more contamination but I don't want to wait for so long to colonize again. Plus the mycobag is a self sustained environment so the odds it will contaminate other cakes are slimmer than in a real fruiting chamber.

Well that's nice, but toss the cake.
