Half Assed Sterile Technique

On my grow my sterile technique wasnt quite what it could have been, but i did put some effort into it (flaming needle, wiping area with lysol/alchohol etc). i didnt use the plastic box thing (cant remember the name), i innoc'd them in open air. now my jars arent showing growth after a week and a half. why would bad technique stop jars from growing if i cant see or smell a contam?

the jars could be too dry or if you used spores they might need more time to germinate.

Are you doing PF tek or grains? How long did you late the spores hydrate in the syringe?
If you're doing grains w/ a self-healing injection port you don't need to do it in a Still Air Box (plastic box thingy )
It's 1 of 2 things.
Your spores are bad/not hydrated enough when you inoculated the jars or your grains or BRF, whichever you used, is too dry & ate the spore solution. I'd recommend trying again w/ the same needle this weekend & put up your prep technique for us to help you there.

i used pf tek. i should have mentioned in my first post that i used whole brown rice instead of brf. a few minutes ago, to see what was going on, i sacrificed a jar to science by opening it up to get a better look. the substrate was almost completely dry. could the whole rice have thrown off my moisture content?

you should've made it into flour by grinding & chopping it all up. I'd ditch those jars & start over. Also, I'd recommend using a Still Air Box for inoculating BRF jars.

yeah my grinder wouldnt work. do you think cube spores would germinate by scraping them onto boiled carboard? i want to see if my spores are good, and maybe spawn the cardboard to hpoo

You've got some searching to do brotha. I'm sure they'll grow somewhat on cardboard...wouldn't hurt to toss a little ELME or LME in the boiling water to help w/ nutrients...You're not going to be able to put cardboard onto poo though.
use the search function, it's your best friend.

Why do something half assed just to fail? What is the point of that? Get brf, follow the tek. All you're going to grow with your method is bad ratings.

i use whole rice.. for me its hard to get it right where you need it till you know where it needs to be.. you want the outside kinda leathery and the inside kinda soft..
i microwave it tho! no stove for me!! but its something ive been trying to perfect lately so its not a great tek to just jump into.. you should grind the BR into a flour if your gonna make cakes.. the cake will be much more dense and full of the nutrients and moisture you need.. rice is more fluffy.. follow the pf tek to a T and youll add the right amount of water everytime no doubt..
on another note.. using whole rice its difficult kinda till you know and perfect the saturation process.. theres a thin line between hard rice thats too dry and rice thats too wet.. mine looks like this.. and i dont use verm.. (but im doing something different than you) im actually gonna spawn it to a small bit of poop..

if you have lotsa spores to play with try this!! im yet to try using spores to knock these but theres no reason it shouldnt work! lets get the microwave revolution started!!
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14049567

use the spores in a karo or honey lc maybe? you need very few spores to start a culture.. plus youll see growth in the jars within days using a good lc..
