LC Jar Lids
    #14143499 - 03/18/11 02:28 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Just got Silicone and polyfill today. I assume "Polyester Fill" is polyfill. Think these jar lids will hold up an LC?

I've seen plenty of people use poly as a filter for LCs. They say it works. Personally, I won't risk it. I only use Whatmans for my LCs now.

My lids now look like this (They're "No-tilt" style)

question TL, have you ever used the clear silicon? I used it with no problems up until now, when i used it for my SFD's on the plastic jar lids, after i PC the silicon is peeling right off, i went to shake some jars yesterday and while shaking the filter flew right off lol

not sure if its the plastic lid, or the silicon but its starting to suck..makes me want to go back to my tyvek under the lid so i know its staying in place

I only use RTV Red silicone for stuff that goes in my PC. Others use the clear. I like the red...

Probably the lid. I noticed that my RTV didn't stick well to my plastic lids either. I ditched them. You can score the top a bit w/ a piece of sand paper to help the silicone adhere better. Or just ditch the plastic & use metal. Personally I like the metal ones better. I ended up throwing out all my plastic ones.

Whatmans aren't tyvek. They're SFD material. They're technically syringe filters. Make sure you get the autoclavable/PCable ones that are at most .45 um. I'd recommend .22 um. Check ebay. I got mine for a really good price, but had to spend $75...so i bought 300...150 per box.

Yea, if it goes over 300 degrees it'll be fine. PC's only hit 250 @ 15 PSI

Oh okay, that's right they're used for FAE instead of the poly or tyvek, that's why I couldn't find them before.

Thank you.
