It's been about 3 or 4 months now since I smoked, and have been totally sober since the start of the year. I did it by meditating, for one it gave me kind of a natural high, and two it allowed me to be more in control of myself - now I don't just automatically give into desires and whims but see them for they are and let them pass.
I would suggest writing down why you want to quit and the benefits you will gain from doing so, and put in a place where you will see it and read it once or more a day, keeping it in mind. Also do something to fill the space that will be left which smoking fills for you. Whatever it is, do something you enjoy.
Nice positive post man

I found taking up serious opiate addiction and alcoholism in the past made giving up marijuana pretty much a non-issue. Then after getting right again, just really had no interest.

Over time cannabis became less and less enjoyable for me and caused some pretty crazy anxiety, so I just started smoking less and less and then stopped all together.
That was 3-4 years ago and I've smoked maybe 5 times since then. I didn't feel any withdrawal, mental or physical. And I didn't feel more bored or anything else. I just cut it out of my life.
I wish I could still enjoy it, because the stuff that I did like (mainly alcohol) had so many more side effects and negative aspects.
