incredibly intense vivid dreams

So recently whenever I've gotten into an argument/fight with someone or done anything regrettable, I wake up around 4 when I've sobered up and can't fall back asleep for about 2 hours (sometimes it feels more). Now, I haven't had this sort of thing happen to me in a long ass time so I'll try to explain it best for the people who have no clue what I'm talking about..
After I toss and turn for those 2 hours or so, I FINALLY fall asleep. Only not have I been awake for awhile now, but I have been trying so hard to fall asleep that I begin to notice the exact point that I start losing consciousness. It would be the perfect scenario for me if I still had the motivation to lucid dream.
Anyway I will start to have a number of different dreams that are VERY realistic and vivid, and the majority of them are usually a scenario of something happening the next day as a followup to whatever happened the night before. I'll talk to friends, go around my apartment, etc. I'll wake up a few times in between them and take another 20 seconds to fall back DIRECTLY into a dream.
I hope that made some sense. In summary I'm trying to explain the dreams I have after I can't fall asleep for hours, and when I finally do I notice it happening because of the wait.

My friend told me about the only time he was able to do that, and it was during a lucid dream. All it took was for him to become lucid, and then mention astral projection. He said it was way more intense and real than the lucid dream that led to it and he experienced a feeling of universal oneness.

That would be the brink of Astral projection, apparently.
My brother has sleep paralysis, and he told me one morning he woke up but couldn't move. He rolled over, fell on the floor, and then woke back up in his bed Apparently sleep paralysis is an easy way to get into astral.

Actually there was one moment in the dream that was unlike any dream I've ever had before. If anyone's stoned/bored, I wrote up a report:
At a certain point in my dream my vision got a little blurry and I became semi-lucid. I had to blink my eyes a few times to make the blurriness go away. I was in first-person perspective, convinced that I was awake because of the vividness and how my thought process felt normal and slow.
I glanced at the wall in my apartment and noticed patterns appearing. Shortly after, a small square window appeared which appeared to be a gateway. Without thinking I walked up to it, put my hands on both sides, and stretched it apart until it was big enough that I could step into it.
Once I was in I was floating forward, no longer in my body. I could control the forward movement and even slow down to take a better look at what was around me. The place had the appearance of a wormhole/tunnel and there was a bunch of these mountain-shaped, cardboard-looking, cutouts that had extreme detail to them - one after the other with space in between each one.
When I reached the end of the tunnel it opened up and I walked back into my apartment. Although I was moving forward out of the tunnel, once I was back in my body I was actually walking backwards out of it. It's very hard to explain now but the transaction was flawless at the time.
I went through it another time and eventually couldn't locate the opening on the wall anymore. Shortly after I see Anthony and I tell him the only object that I was able to make out from the "cutouts" were elfs. He replies, "Well when was the last time you saw an elf?" and points to the gateway which is now shaped like the face of an elf. I lose lucidness and drift off into another dream.
