Should I get a glovebox for inoculations? Or is it not needed? I'm about to start the WBS jars.

A still air box or glove box is the safest way....For maximum safety I wash the entire glove box with alcohol. Then clean the outside of the jars with alcohol. Then spray a little soap water on the inside of the box on the walls and bottom....Then put the jars in the box....A bit anal but its a little safer.....

It is not difficult to do open air inoculations and get away with it, however, considering a GB costs under $20 to make it is well worth the added safety. All you need to do is spray the inside of a GB down with water and its good to go. The real question is what type of lids do you have? Only if you have self healing injection ports/filters can you inject in open air.

i just made a slightly modified version of todlow's Still Air box last night. with everythin (inclduing a brand new sterilite tub) i spent less than $20 and i have a ton of painter suit tyvek left of GE filters.
todlow's SAB tek
this was more for G2G transfers and taking spore prints. i have open air inoculated over 20+ bags of edibles with no contams at all, but since i have it now i will be innoculating my PP5 containers in it. i went with the SAB design over a fixed GB as this will make sterilizing instruments much easier and it wont be all sketchy with burning alcohol inside the box.
-------------------- I am looking for any shiitake strains, any oyster strains, and lions mane cultures. i got cool edibles to trade. "Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing. They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end. They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection..." Roger Rabbit

No need to wipe sterile jars, they are sterile. Also, no need to use alcohol. Warm soapy water will clean your glovebox perfectly well. Don't spray anything inside when you load it, just let the air settle for 15 mins after you do.
The safest procedure is that with the fewest steps, remember that. Every time you do anything, you risk error or contamination. It's the nature of humanity to be fallible.

Yeah, I'm a bit anal about that. I just picture things landing on the jars when I take them out of the pot. But I get your point. Soap water is better than alcohol for pre-cleaning the glovebox?

It doesnt really get any easier if you've already got self healing injection ports.
