I'm guessing you don't actually listen, as it's "Click and Clack".

I'd be a big fan of NPR if they'd dump the stupid news broadcasts. You can hear that tripe anywhere.

I love NPR and I hope they're able to continue to air and maintain their programs without federal funding. They have really great stuff on sometimes!

I listen to a ton of NPR and think their news-casts are generally pretty high quality.
At least as good as anything else you can find on the radio.
I especially enjoy how, at least in my area, they carry the BBC Worldservice for quite a few hours a day, which I enjoy greatly.

I like it, but it's not something I would listen to all day. The ornithology segment they had on the other day was great I thought, and their comedy segment after had me in stitches!

NPR was incorporated on February 26, 1970. It is under corporate control.
Besides, most Repubs I know don't care about who controls public broadcasting or the slant they favor. They just don't think it's a valid use of taxpayer dollars. They are correct.

There general programming can be quite good. Some of the music puts everything else on the radio to shame. If they would dump the news and quit pretending they're really reporting something vastly different than the rest of the worthless bs on the radio I'd pay money to listen.

Where else you can good news on the radio?

that's the problem, they seem to want to post good news, like the story of sarah, the iraqi interpreter that terrorists just want to open up to and tell them where all the weapons are or the one about the CIA interrogator that has a heart and he's a friend of the terrorists and chooses the buddy system to get his information. of course back in my day when you dragged a man's family into the room where you were interrogating him to show them that they;re in good health, it was considered torture because the implication that they'll be tortured is lingering heavily in the prisoner's mind but under the obama plan, that's not psychological torture

What good news? They play out the same sensational and often false crap the other stations do. They just dress it up a little and sell you on the lie that it's really the important news in the world that you need to know. I quit listening to news several years ago and my life has only changed for the better and I didn't need to know hardly any of it.

I love this thread. one guy thinks NPR is too soft, one guy thinks NPR is too corporate, one guy thinks they're the last independent voice, one guy actually thinks the lame world music they play is good, it's rad. It's like that thing with the cavemen that Playdoh guy wrote back in the day
NPR is worth every penny just for science friday, snap judgement, and this american life. The bbc and On Point are also pretty good reporting.
Ultimately, though, federal funding isn't a huge crutch for NPR at this point - hasn't been for quite some time. Another stupid time waster argument where the parties can pose is all this is.
I love the notion that defunding things people work for is job-building, because taking away those jobs (which have people doing them now) to maybe give some sort of roundabout tax relief which may, maybe, create a job if someone uses that relief to start a risky small business or spends enough of it, instead of repairing debt or building wealth with it...
The crazy notion that we have to defund the federal government to create jobs is nuts to me, (it moves jobs at best) or that giving people a few more dollars a year to spend at walmart helps jobs anywhere but china

A public corporation. Now I'm not sure if it's a valid point, but it would seem to be so for me. I could be wrong. It's just become a political football in any case. If they wanted to really save the taxpayer's money, they'd kill the F-35 program. That's become horrendously expensive.
