Hard vs Soft Water Substrate Soak
    #14139713 - 03/17/11 09:40 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Hello friends,

Will growth of mycelium and fruiting bodies be affected if I use hard none distilled water to soak and boil popcorn substrate in? Or would I be better off using distilled water?

Thanks,
Octopie

unless you are using pool water I wouldn't worrie about it too much, but just to be on the safe side, if its really hard I would messure the PH. AFOM lived in AZ and had to use Ph stabilizing solution because of the water.

Hard water is desired.  Never use so-called 'soft water'.  Your mushrooms need the minerals in  hard water and won't appreciate the salt in soft water.
