Anyone ever been on Naltrexone to help stop drinking?

i've been trying to quit drinking for awhile now.. usually i'll make it about a week and then give into the cravings. i'll end up engaging in desperate/comprimising ways to get my fix.. like biking a long ass way in the cold and begging strangers for money. unfortunately i had my worst relapse in awhile starting this past weekend, drinking 10-14 shots the past 5 out of 6 nights..
i woke up this morning pretty worried about how i was going to get over this addiction, i felt desperate enough to get an AA sponsor or just do absolutely anything it took to finally be able to stay off alcohol for good. it's ridiculous how much things will start looking up for me after only a week of being sober, and then insanity takes over the the pull to get drunk is so strong.. the anxiety/boredom/depression gets intense and i know it will get better if i can just not drink, but in some moment of weakness the evil in me will come and and i'll say "fuck it"
anyways now that i've poored my heart out over the shroomery
has anyone ever taken naltrexone to help stop drinking? in my desperation/fear for myself in the future this morning i remembered the bottle of 50mg pills i had disregarded sitting over in the corner of my room. so tonight i popped my first one after making sure the alcohol is out of my system. and i play on staying on it for at least a month, probably more. until the cravings die down enough..
was looking for anyones experiences or things they've heard from friends about this shit.. or even if you've been on it for opiates
thanks!

Fuck ibogaine. Really FUCK IT.
I am taking vivitrol right now for opiate addiction. I get my opana script filled every month and career them on me for financial reasons and I have NO cravings unless I watch people snort drugs.
Vivitrol is great with cravings, but from what i've read it won't decrease alcohol intoxication.

a lot actually. do you know how difficult the preparation process is? i believe i know of a place where it can still be purchased. then i'd just need a sitter right? i'll do more research on it right now
i live with my parents right now and they aren't too super stoked about "drugs" but i could probably convince them to let me partake, or do so stealthily if i have to

Well Owls....
Nalexone, or naltrexone is designed to stop overdoses of opiates... Heroin and those sort of drugs work on the dopamine receptors in the brain, while alcohol (and benzos) work on another neurotransmitter all together ( GABA i think)
so all in all, it probably wont work.
i think that the issue beneath all of this (if i might speculate) is that you have a problem with addictions of all types, and probably had a bad herion/opiate issue in the past (or else you wouldnt have had those pills)
is your drinking replacing one addiction with another?

Actually it does help. Read the stastics and numbers on naltrexlone for alcohol and opiate cravings. It can make a huge difference.

I am taking vivitrol which is the 30 day long injection of naltrexlone. It fills the opiate receptors and blocks the dopamine from stimulating your receptors when your body naturally craves when you look at picture of alcohol, watch people drink, etc.
Ibogaine works for somes, but I have heard horror stories. If LSD or other psychedelics have not been some sort of life changing event for you then ibogaine will not defeat your brain being literally rewired by drugs.
It can help, but don't put your hopes in it. Some people are lucky. LSD and ibogaine helped me think about my addiction and were some influence but they were NOT cure alls. Not even close.

Owls I wouldn't bother with oral naltrexlone. the only people it's helped are highly motivated doctors and more rarely nurses. if you skip a dose you can use.
with vivitrol that little sick fuck in my mind can't overcome a 30 day injection

maybe i should try to get that.. i bet i could. my thinking with this at least is that my will to not drink will be strong enough that in a moment of desperation i'll force myself to take the pill before i can go out and drink, but the injection form would be foolproof for sure

It's really expensive without insurance. I pay $1140 out of my pocket, but it's worth it in the end. Very very worth it.
If you have basic insurance they cover 80% or more. Much much cheaper than your addiction.

Yeah you adjust really really quickly. My 380mg shot is same as 50mg oral 2x a day. At first I got really sick feeling for 24 hours, but just like I ate too much food. not drug nausea. My teeth were also sensitive for a day. Once it's in you and you adjust it's good.

so i talked to my doc today and i can get the injection form..
do you get side effects from it though beyond what you mentioned? i've had absolutely no appetite these past few days.. maybe some of that's just the withdrawal though
