contam cake gone outside

well i had some cakes with a little trich on them. nothing major just little green mold patches...i opened the jars outside and put them in the flower pots that i have had outside for a season or so. so the soil is composed with all sorts of good stuff. now i got mycel growing all over the soil in the flower pots and no sigh of trich! thats right you heard me the trich died out and the mycel stayed strong so if you have some jars that might be good enough to put outside but cant birth them you have some options. i hope this helps some people out there.

yup yup, outside with the nasties! I always do this with botched grows, and a little sun takes right good care of them. Outdoor growing is highly underrated. Do post those pics now wont you?

ya i have a shaddy spot that i dump all my comtamited/spent bulk supstrates and cakes and grain.
its gotten to the point where the pile produces about 3-6 new mushrooms everyday. its not alot but its free so i love it
everyone should have a spot outside that they dump contimated things because the suns UV rays makes it harder for trich to thrive outside

Do you put anything over your botched substrates, like poo or dirt or anything at all? I've got a nice shady patch beneath some banana trees where I'd like to start dumping my contam/old substrates!

I dont think it gets rid of mold considering it strives outdoors. From what ive read, the mold spores turn into mycelium that looks white like mushrooms myc. But its definately better to do the contam jars outdoor for sure im doing that right now.

As for covering patches. you can put a lil unsterilized poo or a piece of cardboard to keep them from dying out.

Ooh cardboard.. genius. How does trich do outside? I remember either reading or hearing that trich is mainly an indoors problem. Does it die out once outside?

trich originates outside. those spores somehow get on the substrate youre going to inoculate, like verm for example, or from the air.
Also, when you open contam jars outside be sure the wind isnt blowing the spores on you. Do it in a shed or something. Ive heard of opening jars inside a pot of water so the trich spores dont fly around.
I dont know for sure if trich disappears when taken outside. I just barely started doing outdoor contam jars and im still waiting for them to colonize. I would assume its still there, and since its covered in dirt and stuff its less noticeable since its in its natural environment.
Ive read that trich is in the soil outside our houses. Perhaps it does have somthing to do with the sun. Would make a lot of sense if the trich lived in the dirt beneath the surface.

actually, trich spores are everywhere...pretty sure its hard for it to colonize outside, Fresh Air is contam's worst enemy.. Ive read that trich is in the soil outside our houses. Perhaps it does have somthing to do with the sun. Would make a lot of sense if the trich lived in the dirt beneath the surface.

Odds are the trich is still there.....But molds hate being outdoors in fresh air....they strive indoors

i personaly never put anything over my substrates and it worked fine but it might work better if you did. i know some people cover theres with grass clippings and stuff like that. anything will work including cardboard but i didnt put anything over them cuz im lazy i guess
