i have a FB, and i dont see much "wrong" or annoying or whatever, with having one. sure "they" have my info, like what kind of music i listen to, what books i read, tv shows, etc. does that really matter? not at all. so what if its "archived"? you think someone is going to use it against you some day? if youre doing something illegal, dont use FB to talk about it.
if anything, facebook is just a good way for major corporations to learn how to market stuff differently and sell things to you.
facebook and other social networking sites are the evolutionary result of the internet. listen to what terence mckenna talked about, how the boundaries of reality are dissolving, everyone all over the world connecting and coming together instantly. FB is a pretty cool concept IMO
I love when people assume others are "bragging".
Simply informing-stating.
McKenna also suggests that culture is not your friend.
To each his own.

False.
You simply have to write a request to Facebook asking that they permanently delete your account. They have a specific page for it, I believe. I sent mine as an e-mail to their technical support team.
*EDIT: For the link, https://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account

Of what value to me is the information that somebody I don't know isn't on Facebook?
Of what value to me is the culture of Facebook rejection?

Only you can decide that, oh wise one.
However, you visited the thread. I'm assuming that you wanted it in some way.

I like to take breaks for a week or so, but without putting up real pictures and just using it as a forum it does come in handy, met a few people from way back that way, one of which is a perfect ten, that otherwise would likely not have caught up with again.
Besides, it's mainstream. Probably get replaced by a new format in another year or two anyway, once everyone's mom is up on there.

Tchan909 said: The other day, some app that I had never approved of sent an automatic spring greetings card to my auntie in Portugal with no input from me. I received a notification that she liked it, and that was the first time I'd heard of the card that had been sent to her under my name.
There was nothing special about the card; she was just happy to have received a card from me.
It made me incredibly sad, for some reason. I felt like I had lied to a loved one. It's so dehumanizing when I think about it. For the first time I seriously considered deleting my FB.
Haha, that's very weird. You would think it would be against the law to add the application without your approval. I'm guessing that you somehow clicked it on accident.
As for the card, that is pretty sad. You should let her know that it was a Facebook fault and then send her a real card via post. That'll make both of you feel better.

I find most of Facebook to be an ego-dominant powerhouse. It empowers the ego in ways I've never witnessed in person.

Which do you think powers and strokes the ego more, facebook itself, or startting a thread about it proclaiming, how counter-culture, deep and unique you are?
Q: How do you tell if someone doesn't have facebook? A: Don't worry, they'll let you know.

Facebook for sure.
Did I say any of those things? Nope. Nice assumptions, though. You definitely missed what I was going for.
I was only hoping to rejoice with those of those who had also deleted their accounts. A celebration of sorts.
However, it instead turned into a flame fest for those who are attached to their accounts.

Good idea. But yeah it really brought my attention to how I could be appreciating my family more. I used to think FB was a sufficient way to stay in touch with overseas relatives but this event was like God smacking me in the face.
But yeah... all of us have one or two people on our friends list who have like 10,000 contacts and spend all day pissing their time away on Facebook.

The reason why threads like this are annoying is because they are essentially net-hipster circlejerking sessions. (I have seen this thread atleast 5 time since I started on shroomery)

I'm so sorry for fitting into your taxonomy of internet personalities. I guess I had to go somewhere.
That said, who wants to jerk me next?
