55Gal Metal drum hunt continues....

All I can find is barrels that had toxic stuff in them. The toxic stuff was in a liner.. I can find LOTS of plastic food grade.
I'm really having difficulty finding used, food grade, metal drums, 55 g.
Where should I look? Craigslist and freecycle have failed me.
I called the local grocers and the bottling plant.
What kind of food comes in 55g drums anyway?... oil and?

I have seen people say these are easily obtainable and I'm willing to drive an hour if I have too.

I'm turning an old farm gas storage tank into a grill.

Found it on craigslist.
I just searched and found these:

Craigslist is amazing.

OP, where do you live? Check craigslist, look for your nearest metro.
Coastal areas will have WAY more food-grade barrels available.
My problem was in deciding which price I wanted to pay. I was able to grab 2 from a guy for $15 a piece. I saw his storage area and he probably has a hundred or so sitting around.
They're definitely out there.
My gallon drums contained lemon oil concentrate.

I'm not sure. For my barrels it looked like the lemon juice concentrate was stored inside of some containers which were then stored inside of the barrel. That's just my guess though; I saw what looked like thick scotch tape and pieces of plastic bagging inside of my drums.
I, personally, wouldn't buy a metal drum that had (cooking)oil in it IF it were stored directly in the barrel and if it weren't cleaned. Not for $24 anyway. Cleaning that barrel sufficiently, especially cleaning out a grease product can easily be valued at $10 worth of work at minimum.
It doesn't seem like you're in much of a position to be calling the shots/weighing options though.

Have you checked feed/farm type stores? Not sure what they go for, but I've seen them there.

I found my "Barrel Man"
Juice and Cola scented barrels! Like a scratch and sniff stickers.
He will clean and deliver. He's got verity.
I have opted for a open top steel 55g cola syrup container instead of crisco ... that would have been gross.
I also grabbed a few open plastic juice concentrate 55g containers.
I hope these aromas aren't contagious and won't be a problem.
Craigslist finally came through.

So I got off the phone with "barrel man" and hes like "ok i will see you sometime in the next 1 and a half hours..."
Then hes here like fifteen min later with who appears to be his dad.
This dude looked haggard. He had a cast on and was missing some front teeth. It looked like he had exposed himself to lots of toxic substances.
I wondered to myself "Would this guy care if he posioned me???
He unloaded a barrel identical to the one I already had. Mine was a former home to some wood glue.
Both drums have a red interior and a black exterior. Mine also has a big label sticker. The barrel this man delivered has no label. No nice label saying it had cola syrup in it. No Proof.
So I was about to tell this guy to "take a hike" and then he handed me his rain barrel buisness brocure. 2 handwritten, photocopied pages... saying all the other stuff this guy sells, offering discounts to schools and community projects.
At this point I thought "wow, this is one sick bastard, if hes tring to sell toxic barrels to schools." and gave him $30
Is it going to make me grow 3 eyes?

Probably not, and even if, it would be kinda cool, you could really "open your third eye", and then close it at will.

Does anyone have a verified food grade that is red on the inside and black on the outside?

food grade liner is just a plastic coating that is relatively inert and protects against barrel rusting and metal leeching into the foodstuffs being transported.
I did in fact have a red liner in the inside of my barrel. It's beginning to peel off because I boil hydrated lime and water for my straw baths and use a rock thingy to weigh the straw down.
If there's a liner I'd say its safe. Not having a label is a definite bad thing though.
