turntables question
    #1413662 - 03/27/03 07:04 AM (21 years, 6 days ago)

Hey someone near me is selling 2 Stanton STR8-100 Direct Drive Turntables for $250. I'm thinking of getting them, not to get serious about the whole dj'ing thing but just for shits and giggles and maybe developing some mixing skills in my spare time. But anyhow, does anyone know if these are good tables for that task (I know they probably aren't the best but I'd rather get something inexpensive).

also let me know if there is anything I should look for when buying them as far as wear and tear or defects in playability, I'd have no idea what to look for.

I'd pick them up if I were you. $250 is not a lot to drop on those decks. They are decent, direct drives, and quite sturdy. Are you getting a mixer and needles too?

Just do a quick once over, make sure that they start and stop properly. Make sure the tonearm is okay, and that you can adjust them. Make sure the pitch adjust works as well. Look at the platter while it's spinning, is it wavy? If all that is good buy them up, you got a helluva deal.

If you get serious, I'd recommend buying a pair of 1200s or Vestax PDX-2000s....

I don't think that includes a mixer. I'd think it includes needles, unless those need to be replaced often, I'll ask. thanks
