jacking off has nothing to do with nothing...

to answer the original question, i concur with the luck factor.  and his logic about cutting out the middle man doesn't make much sense.

standard way:
prep, sterilize, inoculate, colonize, crumble, fruit

his way:
prep, sterilize, crumble, inoculate, colonize, fruit

still has the same steps, just in a different, and less sterile manner. so you can call him an idiot for that at least if it helps to recoup from his shit talking.

pf tek is best for beginners for numerous reasons. good luck OP

it was a funny analogy, I bet youll never recomend cakes again.

im sorry but with the availabilities of pre sterilized spawn pf cakes and that are 50/50 on the easy scale i don't care what anyone says on that matter... i've heard to much on noobs trying to atain brf and verm and just dumbshit... GOING STRAIGHT TO BULK CAN BE ACHIEVED BY FIRST TIME NOOBS... for under 50 dollars including spores... read it, learn it, except it, but learning to make and prep your own grains should become a beginners priority after successful growing, I just trying to break up this pattern that all noobs should start with brf, there's options.

Starting out with grains requires a higher investment than PF cakes, and they're about as fool proof as it gets. I started out with grains and I still tell people to learn the PF tek first.

Yeah, I've been trying to get it out there that PF cakes are, IME, way more of a pain in the ass than doing bulk substrate.

Doing grains is fucking easy. It's faster (in terms of colonization), it's easier to get ingredients for it, it's less labor intensive, and spawning to bulk poo (or even coir) can give you such a ridiculous amount of shrooms that you won't have to do but maybe one or two grows in a year to satisfy you and all your friends.

Check out this tek:
http://www.shroomery.org/9030/Docs-Wild-Bird-Seed-Tek

This is how I always did it (except I just used tyvek on the lids, no polyfill), and I never had any problems with my grain jars besides maybe accidentally overcooking the seeds and having them get all starchy.

For pasteurizing your poo, try this tek:
http://www.shroomery.org/8393/Oven-Bag-Pasteurization-Pictorial

I would recommend doing your temps a little lower than recommended in that tek, maybe more like 150-160F.

Then just fruit in a monotub.

Also, using liquid culture will save you butt loads of money/time on spore syringes:
http://www.shroomery.org/11341/Liquid-Culture

I recommend just using a drop of honey in a pint of water for your LC. Always worked great for me.

If you're doing LC -> WBS, you can have fully colonized jars in less than two weeks, and if you wanted you could just fruit right off of that! That's opposed to, what, 4-6 weeks waiting for your PF cakes to colonize? srsly. Waste of time PF tek is.

got an email from someone who suggested rye berries, and a compost. I believe that I will be going that route here soon. Thank You Out-Grow.com:crazy2:

it is definitely doable. let me tell you my experience. i started off with cakes and had a successful grow. i then moved to wbs and coir and for 6 months or so i only had perhaps 10-20% success rate. then i went to spawn bags for my grain and went to 0% for a while. bacteria would stop them from colonizing. once i got that squared away, i had problems with passteurizing bulk amounts of substrate. once again i ran into 0%. but again, it is doable, but if you want the route with the highest success rate, go with brf cakes. walk, then jog, then haul fuckin ass!

honestly investment wise for a noob... buy what it would take for two or three monos with out-grow.com i came up with $50 on two tubs worth material included spawn and a brick or two of coir. plus 12 for two tubs. being out-grow fuckin rocks... if your spawn contams you get more so thats what i call a "garenteed investment" as far as spawn goes. we have $62 plus cost of spores invested now for two mono grows. now think if one fails and one don't, will there be enough "goods" to make your investment back? answer is yes. how much time do we have in aquiring these materials? time is money... trip to wally and 10 minutes on website. not bad... now time in actuall myco related labor... ten min to knock up 4-6 spawn bags, 90 min in a proper coir pasturization. this is coir/compost sub btw. 10 min bulk run... 20min tub construction, 5 min case and the time to harvest.  would anyone like to counter post this with a pf tek time/investment run down. including an estmated guess % of first time success. which i put this at 75%  here is what a first time noob could have going on , my first mono tub...

I never understood people who buy pre-sterilized jars.

Just get a fucking pressure cooker! $5 for a quart of grain?

You can get a cheap PC from target or walmart for like $60-$80 and then you can do all your own sterilization for a long long time.

I just steam em..:P

No but seriously..

I have had my eyes on pressure cookers for a long time but the issue is this: In Sweden, we dont use gas. Thats right...no gas.

And hardly any cooking plate is large enough for a pressure cooker as is, so Id love to find some way to deal with it but as it is now I can not use one...

+ the american made models cant be bought here...

But for discussion sake, what pressure cookers would fit the largest stovetop burner available? Just for comparison:) And mind that I cant use gas...

i would never invest in presterilized jars... 2 lbs per bag for $7 which is a mono tub for me i find well worth it for not hassling with grain prep, i am kinda a busy person and it is taking the easy way out but somethings in life the cost of taking the easy way out is worth it to the individual...

Try looking for an electric autoclave. It's basically just like a pressure cooker, but it uses an electric heating element.

If you have the internet, you CAN get whatever the fuck you want... you do realize this, right? ... you'll have to pay extra for shipping tho...
