How would the Shroomery proceed?

Long story short, my original roommate for this year bailed out on me in October. I made him get out money for at least a months rent before he left luckily but I haven't seen a dime since other than the 50 dollars to get him off the lease which still took 2 weeks of riding his worthless ass. He keeps spinning these bullshit stories and not coming through. For a while I'd get texts from him at the bar and other bullshit like him going to bowling nationals in Reno and paying for that. Now come to find out he's been working not one, but two jobs since he's been home and I still haven't seen any money. I'm tired of playing nice with this guy, where should I go from here? There's always small claims court but I'd rather avoid that for only 800 bucks although I've already threatened. I think I've been more than reasonable and forgiving at this point. He's doing everything he wants to do still and just fucking me over. I've already got one person I have to take to court because they owe me over a grand and I'd rather not go through it twice.
What what you do?

While I agree with the sentiment I'm not sure that's gonna help my case a whole lot. I'd be more satisfied with a baseball bat to the knees if only to knock some sense into him. Any damage would be a side effect of that end goal I assure you.

You took him off the lease?
Not a whole lot you can do, man. Find somebody else to take his room that will pay you.

I did find someone else to take his room. That doesn't change the fact that he still owes me money.

Why would he pay you if he's not on the lease? Does he owe you money for something else?

He owes me for two months of rent/utilities.. I probably wasn't clear in the original post. I didn't instantly find a subleaser.
