Are These Edible (Image Heavy)(ID Request)
    #14135268 - 03/17/11 04:56 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Habitat:
In some wood chip underneath a few wattle and gum trees

Gills:
Black, attached, gills, made my finger black after letting them sit then picking them up 20 minutes later

Stem:
4-10 cm Long, White and sort of solid

Cap:
Diameter, browny yellow colour in the middle then sort of a dull white colour near the edges, rigid texture (when i ran my finger over the cap u could feel the groves in it), conical cap when small larger ones were more flat and round.

Spore print color:
Black will post a picture if any one wants i just thought i had enough already

Bruising:
no noticeable bruising but as mentioned above when I touch the gills some black ink sort of stuff comes off

anyways was basically wondering if they were edible psychoactive or not because id rather them go to use then just throw the away.

Coprinellus Sp. maybe Truncorum?

Not psychoactive, where in NSW are you located? Further south you should be looking for Psilocybe Subaeruginosa, season is only just starting and will only start in mid-late April for most regions

I live in ACT and have found Psilocybe Subaeruginosa and Panaeolus cyanescens or Copelandia Cyanescens, whatever floats your boat,

thanks for the quick reply and yeah i know it would be a bit early for subs but had a lot of rain recently.

I live close to ACT and just started the NSW 2011 thread with very early finds, I recommend getting out there over the next 2 - 3 weeks after a good hit of rain  This year is gonna be a great season I can feel it. You have found Cyan's in the ACT?

i was told that is most likely what they were and were in cow paddocks in some poop, no one ate them that i know of... my friend claimed them as his to take home and look at under a scope, but it was around the bottom of the mountains near tharwa

Not psychoactive... + they look nothing like Subaeruginosa, not sure what your friend with the scope is thinking?

Tharwa is close to Sub country, but your temps are way too high at the moment. I would wait at least 2 - 4 weeks before expecting Subs to pop up in that area. If you want early Subs, look at the top of the mountains, temps will be much lower and they depend on the cold Autumn temperatures to initiate pinning. Still very early, keep looking between the next two weeks - Late July

+ Subaeruginosa really prefers sub-alpine / alpine environments, never personally looked in cow poop, Ps. Cubensis likes the poop but Subs like woody debris like eucalypt or pine

I think he was referring to possible Panaeolus cyanescens in the last post, not P. subaeruginosa or C. micaceus.

I'm sure if you ask some of the more experienced members via PM someone could send you a Cubensis spore print, especially the Aussie members. I got my first Cubensis spores from a very generous Shroomery member, started with the PF-Tek and moved up to WBS. I am not experienced with Cyanescens but I am sure someone can provide you with advice, I would personally use the search feature to check out the cultivation forums  + Not much longer to Sub Season anyways, if you look in the right areas you wont need to cultivate

Are you looking to grow edibles or psycho actives? Either way check out the cultivation forums, and the 'Grow mushrooms' section of this site  :goodluck: Lots of reading will help alot! + Check out the mountains around the ACT between now and late July for Psilocybe Subaeruginosa, you will be pleased
