Mushroom floating in toilet leads to boy's arrest March 17, 2011 - nwfdailynews.com
DESTIN -- A 17-year-old homeschooled boy was arrested March 11, nearly four months after he came home "acting suspiciously," according to his Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office arrest report.
When his parents went into his room to investigate, they noticed 6-7 mushrooms, which his mom tried to flush down the toilet, the report said. One didn't flush and his father called the police, since it was not his son's first drug involvement, the report said.
Gage Shane Henson told the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputy that it was not the first time he had experimented with mushrooms and that he had "tripped out" the last time.
The FDLE analzyed the mushroom and found it to be a Schedule 1 narcotic.
Henson was charged with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, the report said.

Parents calling the cops on their son over shrooms...
Way to fuck up his future and ensure that he'll be even more likely to do something stupid because of the unfortunate situations he may now face.
I'm so glad my dad's a pothead.

GOOD LUCK FINDING A JOB BUDDY
Potential Employer: Ah, I see you are a high school dropout, that's always good to see in potential janitors. Keeps them for getting too uppidy and seeking new employment.
Gage Hensen: Oh yeah, you know, my parents always wanted the best for me. Guided me so to speak.
Potential Employer: ...Wait.... Felony possesion of witchcraft! No way. Not in this upstanding establishment! Don't call us, we won't call you. GOOD DAY SIR.
This kid is probably pretty dumb for leaving his booms out when he must know his parents are wig-flippers like this. But I see where he gets it from. His parents are
His mom can't even flush the toilet properly.

I remember arguing with this mom about this very thing. She was asking for help cause her son was into drugs and I was trying to advise her how to build back trust etc. Fucking dumb bitch, couldn't understand how calling the cops on your own son is an bad idea.

Wow? Why?
I hope he grows up to be highly successful... then he'll at least have something to shove down his parents throat. Destroying your life doesn't prove anything and isn't noble at all. I know heroin addicts and quite frankly their parents don't give half a shit... being a successful drug user is a lot more respectable. If that's the case in the end the parents will feel like assholes for trying to fuck him over, or at least the father will.
In some states you can have your record erased/reduced if you're under 18... I got in a bit of legal trouble at age 16 and it supposedly didn't carry onto my record once I turned 18. I'm not sure how that works though because that's the only time i've ever been in real legal trouble. I hope the best for the guy though...

I went to school with this guy. His parents have been on his ass for a while about this stuff but this is crazy. How can someone justify having their kid arrested for owning fungus?
If wild mushrooms are not considered "containers of psilocybin" in Florida and the piglets have no proof Gage bought them from someone else then what can they actually do to him?

I almost feel sorry for the parents. How shallow and empty their lives must be if they are so out of touch with reality. They must live in constant fear and panic, looking for the next impure threat to their meaningless existence.
Not that sorry though, can't imagine calling the cops on anyone I know, even people I don't like. Unless they are a real threat to someone or themselves (seen some psychotic outbursts/episodes in my time.)

I say "Kudos to Mom!" It sounds like she was trying to be protective by flushing the shrooms before dumb ass daddy found out. He probably beat her for it later.

He's definetly screwed unless his record can be wiped once he turns 18, but otherwise if he ever wants to go to college he's never going to get grants/loans. Just a simple possession charge takes care of any of that. Very sad, very.

What I want to know is: what kind of new sort of mushroom is this that's actually a narcotic? I've heard of psychedelic mushrooms, but narcotic mushrooms must have been invented in the past couple of weeks because narcotic effects seem to be the last kind of effects I'd imagine being caused by a mushroom.
And I don't see the part that mentions they're Christian or they believe in Creationism... looks like they could be die-hard Communist Atheists for all we know.

I'm glad God blessed me with such wonderful parents. I've always loved my parents, they gave me the best childhood. They allowed me to smoke pot as long as i smoked outside and kept my grades up in high-school. What more could I have asked for? My parents knew how to raise a good child, with love and care, not by threats and punishment.

I wasn't so lucky. My parents had a zero tolerance policy when I was growing up. Instead of letting me smoke safely outside on the back porch, I was forced to find a place to smoke elsewhere and inevitably, it led to my arrest because the police came to a house I was staying at and they were looking for someone with a warrant. They walked right into a room full of smoke because my friend's little sister let them come in. That never would have happened if my parents had just accepted it and let me smoke at home. Prohibition fails yet again.

Thats changing in a lot of states. in colorado its no longer automatically sealed. it can only be sealed if the charge is a misdemeanor and it takes a ton of work to get it done. it has to be 4 years after finishing jail or probation. or 1 year after going through a diversion program. and if its a felony you are fucked it is never getting sealed. and im pretty sure possession of schedule 1 drug is a felony. im not sure about whether florida still seals records.

I came from one of these Christian, private-schooling situations, don't say it was all good, but am taken aback by the ignorance on this end of spectrum.
Creationists teach both sides of the argument, in some cases, reciting the evolutionist position better than many evolutionists do.
While they complain that public schooling is inherently socialistic, all home school curricula have to be accredited, or the state will take their children. (The same state which scheduled the narcotic.)
In my experiences of the socialistic (I mean public) school system, we were not taught rationalism, above and beyond the three R's. Rather than being critical in a free marketplace of ideas, directed, group exercises acclimatized us toward collectivism.

While modern activities were less jarring, the ethic was the same.
