I cannot find much on king stropharia grows. I've got a small 6x12x8 (WxLxH) with 4" of king stropharia colonized coir/verm and I was wondering if casing it would be a good idea and what would be recommended. I've got a sgfc to fruit it in, but I was also curious if I could just fruit it in the tub kind of like the bucket o shrooms tek. I really appreciate any help I can get on this because I'm really looking forward to eating the suckers! Hoping to transfer the spent substrate to the garden as well.
Thanks for the help

Yes, casing layer is mandatory. Pasteurized peat/vermiculite, just peat, peat-based potting soil all work well, and you should add some garden soil (before pasteurization) to the casing layer to introduce the microorganisms necessary to induce fruiting. I think I saw only one report of successful indoor SRA fruits, and in that case the casing layer was left to "age" for a month outside. But good luck!

The instructions that came with my kit said to use "garden dirt" lol. I ended up using bags of topsoil from the store. No pasteurizing or anything - just dumped it on. I dug around in there a couple days ago because I cannot resist checking and the myc is going crazy.
Good luck with yours!

Hey Tangich,
I agree. I read, in GGMM I believe, that one should do a "low pasteurization" (perhaps my term) where the temp is kept closer to 120-140 F so as protect some of the desired microorganisms.
Take care,
JD

Be patient you'll be fine. And Mixing verm with your substrate is excellet for all species as it adds a CAC'ing effect.
