If they're as dry as they look, then the gills usually looked a bit browny (not sure about orange ) to me once they were pretty dry, although definitely get better pics before consuming
They are usually a tan color when dried

Those are not Psilocybe subaeruginosa, they are a common lookalike that is much thicker and with sponge-like gills which aren't formed in straight lines but more of a criss-cross web kind of fashion.
Do not consume.

...and on a side note, AGAIN, can people please post only confirmed NZ Psilocybes in here, otherwise it ends up 200 pages long with ID requests for mycena & galerinas.

HazeOutWest said: hey guys, been finding these in potting mix at a plant nursery for the last week or so now (in auckland). they stain blue and i am guessing they might be psilocybe?? would be great to get an ID on them. cheers

these last two pics are of a mushroom i found a couple weeks ago, again in potting mix with blue staining.
Hi HazeOutWest, your first nine images show a Mycena species, possibly M. subcaerulea or an undescribed southern hemisphere species that is closely related, I suspect it may contain psilocybin but I don't recommend experimentation, here is one of my observations of that species showing the macroscopic and microscopic characteristics which all agree with M. subcaerulea, the aroma is very much like that of many Psilocybe species, the blue pigment is not really produced by damage but rather it is always there and is more prominent in young specimens in the base of the stipe and on the pileus, as the mushroom matures the blue pigment fades and is only noticeable at the base of the stipe and around the pileus margin! http://mushroomobserver.org/43993?q=4Kop
Your last two images show the beautiful and undescribed Psilocybe species that belongs in Section Aztecorum, it is closely related to P. baeocystis and P. aztecorum, here are some recently cultivated specimens and a link to some previous information from the same experiment.
 http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14066329/page/1/fpart/1/vc/1
I will propose the name as Psilocybe aureoalbescens when I submit my description to Mycotaxon. This specific epithet refers to the colour of the fresh and hydrated pileus and to the hygrophanous reaction upon drying, it means gold becoming white.

Hey
I found these today and i was wondering if old blacker looking subs are safe to consume, there were some mushrooms at the same patch that were too blackened and gross to take.

Do any of these look dangerous to consume? In the bag there are about 80 more subs found in the same amazing patch in wellington.
Thanks

You will probably find them to be quite maggot infested, I would dry them first else make a tea and strain through a cloth before consumption.

Willman: those don't look that bad to me, I've eaten considerable amounts of the muck. Scrape the black if you think it's worth it.
Was a nice day outdoors huh Jack ?

Here's a small handful I got from one diverse yet low yielding patch. All three species found within meters of each other:

The first one is a Mycena species, possibly containing psilocybin but experimentation is not recommended!
The last one is a Psathyrella species.

The bluing is different on the Mycenas than it is on the rest of the species, therefore I do not think they contain psilocybin. It is a slightly different shade of blue and more importantly, the blue color fades away as the mushrooms dry. With psilocybin mushrooms, the bluing stays or turns to black when they dry.
