Adelaide, Australia - early finds (P.subaeruginosa)
    #14134180 - 03/16/11 10:48 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hey everyone, well I'd like to let all my fellow aussies know, (especially those from my neck of the woods) that even with our shitty weather still being on the warm side and the lack of rain.
I had some luck finding a few subs today in a suburban patch/area. It was completely unexpected.

It struck me as odd considering that I actually go hunting in the right spots, at the right time of year and still get unlucky a lot of the time. These where found in a heavily packed suburban area with people walking straight past them, growing when the season hasn't even started!.
I noticed at first that the habitat I was in looked perfect, so I had a quick look around, and voila!

I found 1 mature specimen, and a bunch of pins scattered all over the place.
People had actually been walking through the patch and had obviously kicked and knocked over pins everywhere, spreading the patch out considerably.

I wasn't even thinking of going hunting at my usual spots for at least another month yet, but this has got me re-thinking that.
Did I just get lucky or is it possible that the season has started even without the colder temperatures and right conditions?

You'd probably have better luck in the hunting forum.

They can pop up this early, I spotted a handful last weekend in Southern NSW

Looking at Adelaide's temperatures from the BOM there are days where the temps got down to 11 degrees min and days where max temp was also down to 21 degrees, much lower than the recent Summer temps. This was prob the cold shock your area needed to initiate pins. You guys also had some decent rainfall around that time

Post some photos for us:banana:

I actually didn't grab any of them, as it was really crowded at the time and I was with some people who wouldn't have appreciated me stopping to pick mushrooms :P
but I plan on heading back there, or at least taking a mental note of the spot.

Hopefully there not destroyed or gone by then!

it was just good to see them out again! There was actually fungi everywhere of all types, which always gets me excited. we had some big finds late last season when the weather was similar in conditions.

looks like its almost bushwalking season again after this next bit of rain.
