Spawn bags and Presure cook times

So ive never used spawn bags always quarts and pressure cooked for 1 to 1.5 hours no prob,,but i bought some of these bags online, and i see they can hold alot of rye grain, but the threads ive read says they need to be pressure cooked for 4 hours , is this true? if so what a waste of money

Yes you need to pressure cook them for longer because there is more grains/substrate in the bags.. I mean you need to make sure the middle of your bag gets up to temp for the right amount of time.. I usually do 5 quarts of grain per bag and then do 4 bags at a time and pressure cook them for 3-4 hours..

Depends on what psi's your PC can reach.
Lower PC times can be made up for by high psi's and visa-versa.
In other words, the lower the psi's the longer the sterilizer run.
The higher the psi's you PC can reach, the lesser amount of time you'll have to sterilize for.
You always want to PC large grain bags for no less then 2 hours.

I have a presto 23 quart and a 120volt all american 25x.. I can squeeze 4 bags into my presto 23 quart pc..
