I don't ever see ugly people.  I see fat people, people who dress poorly, people whose bodies could use work or more food or people whose teeth could be straightened.

The problem really *is* in trying to be or look like someone else.  There is a cultural "ideal" that many people try to achieve, and in this century media has made sure that almost EVERYONE knows what you're "supposed" to look like.  A lot of people take that to heart and start downing themselves because of it.  Can a person "fail" at achieving the cultural ideal?  Absolutely.  The problem, that I see, is that this is the definition of "ugly", to "fail to meet the cultural ideal".

There are no "ugly" numbers, no "ugly" colors.  There are no "ugly" sounds.  Similarly I don't think that there are "ugly" people.

Ugly is all about your own mind.

A perfect example is body weight/size.  Lots of guys are attracted to girls that I just don't find attractive.  I'm not really attracted, at all, to a woman that doesn't have a MODERATELY thick bottom half for her size.  She can be petite, but her legs, thighs and ass better bulge a bit more than the top half of her.  I am not very strongly sexually attracted to girls with skinny legs or small bottoms *at all* it's a total turnoff for me.

At the same time, this is currently the culturally accepted norm.  It is LESS SO than it was 10-15 years ago back in the mid 90s when there was no Beyonce or J Lo (even Rihanna is relatively thick).

None of this has anything to do with "ugly"; it's just perception.  If you perceive yourself as beautiful, you are.  If not, you aren't.

Right, but people are seeking confirmation from OTHERS. Of course you can believe you're beautiful, but the only way that idea is going to be reinforced is through others opinion of you. You can KNOW you're beautiful, but if people constantly tell you that you're ugly...well then that belief doesn't mean as much.

I agree that in our society we have painted a picture of what "beautiful" is, but (not to be cliche or anything), beauty is in the eye of the beholder...which is absolutely true. Different people are attracted to different things.

Also, ANYTHING can be ugly. Trees can be ugly, a house can be ugly...ugly is defined as being "displeasing to the senses". There ARE ugly people, but the people I find ugly you might not...
