roommate gets on my nerves
    #14132889 - 03/16/11 06:59 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

so i've been living with this guy since last september, and he's cool and all, but sometimes i seriously can't stand him. he talks nonstop sometimes about things i could really care less about. i try to be a good friend and half-ass a smile, or a chuckle, just so he doesn't get butthurt. but lately he's really been getting on my nerves so i completely just ignore when he goes overboard on the talking, usually when i've had enough with acting like i give a shit. now, i don't necessarily mind the talking, per se, because it's usually the topic of conversation that completely kills the vibe. he's kind of annoying and enjoys talking about himself, and it's so fucking painfully hard to just stand there as he goes on and on about his petty interests.

wtf do i do?

Then tell him. Get fucking drunk if you need an excuse, but wait for it and then fire, "---Listen, let me cut you off cause I dont give a fuck what you're talking about and you've been doing this more and more frequently lately. Stop talking about yourself so much, I already have to live with you"

You need to develop that relationship with him, so you can be brutally honest.

It's hard to get someone to understand that they are your friend unconditionally (you have to believe that yourself too, and believe that they believe that etc..), then just go for brutal honesty.

Then you can just tell him to shut the fuck up.

Has it occurred to you to just change the topic of conversation to one you are interested in?

he's the type of person that just gets louder than you until you shutup and listen to him. i've been shutdown on multiple occasions while i tried to develop a separate conversation.

i think this is my best bet. i just don't want him to get all butthurt and make my living situation an awkward hell since we all have pretty much the same friends at college and back home (he's from the same city as me).

Those over talkative people freak me out too. It doesnt bother me too much. I usually sit there and keep saying.. yea.... yea.... mmm hmmm... yea. I always wondered what would happen if you just stopped saying 'yea' and zoned out. lol

I also know what you mean about him talking louder than you.

You should start doing jumping jacks or break dance next time. See what he says.
