5 Great Films to Watch While Tripping Balls...

1. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, 1919. This expressionistic masterpiece is best enjoyed under the influence of expressionistic drugs.
2. A Clockwork Orange, 1971. The trippy interior of Alex's house, his mum's green hair, Beethoven's Ninth, ultra-violence, what more could you ask for?
3. Un Chien Andalou, 1921. Short, but the height of Surrealism. The slicing of the eye ball will seriously fuck with you.
4. 2001: A Space Odyssey, 1969. The true greatness of this masterpiece can only be truly experienced while under psychedelic influence.
5. 8 1/2, 1963. This won't appeal to everyone, but if you can dig it, you need to try it.

Caligari is something everyone has to see. The entire thing was filmed indoors on a painted set and everything is distorted, doorways, hallways, stairs. And if you can dig another silent film, see Nosferatu, made 80 years ago and still the best Vampire film. The new DVD has an excellent sound track added to it.

Sounds like my kind of thing. Amazon (uk) doesn't have it though, unfortunately. Oh and good call on 2001: A Space Odyssey. That has to be the most thought provoking film i've ever seen.
5. 8 1/2, 1963. This won't appeal to everyone, but if you can dig it, you need to try it. Is this also known as "Fellini's 8.1/2", because if so I have seen it. Great stuff.

Clockwork Orange! That is a true masterpiece... I've never watched it tripping but it's EXCELLENT whilst sober. Quite confusing if you haven't read the book though!
I imagine the following would also be good to watch, a film called:
If...
I don't know too much about it but it is sometimes on BBC 2 (UK). Excellent, very trippy.
I'll have to watch The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari sometime I think Huxley...

Watch 'Rodger Dodger', really well acted and directed. The best movies to watch tripping aren't obviously 'trip' movies. You're better off watching a movie that has a lot of time and effort and attention to detail in it. It'll help you understand movie making in the process.

I can't explain this AT all but I'll try. One thing I notice while tripping is that a lot of jokes I find most funny are jokes that make people look awkard, so the movie Meet The Parents, which is wicked alone, must be pretty good while tripping, though I've never watched it while doing so.

Here is my list oF greatest films to trip on, or what i would think. 1. THX 1138: Geroge lucas's first movie. If you havn't triped on this, go get it. 2. Requrium of a Dream
3. 2001: A Space Odyssey
4. Dr. Stranglove: Avery funny dark comedy.
5. Gold Rush: You have to really like movies, to enjoy this. IT is one of chaplin's best films, silent and talkie. The silent movie aspect really gets you. Havn't tripped on all of them, but if i had, i would definatly on THX 1138 and it is great, especially if you like Geroge lucas. Definatly seems that it has physcedelic "roots."

I just recently saw Baraka and Waking life in one trip, both for the first time. I wasn't planning on having a movie trip but it was awesome, I really enjoyed both a lot. We watched Waking Life first, which kind of set the mood for Baraka. Also someone mentioned watching Requium For a Dream while tripping, I don't think I could handle that one. I love that movie and I even own it but to watch it while trippin would be way too much for me too handle. Not much disturbs me but that movie does it every time. It always turns my stomach at the end. Heavy stuff! Oh and another good film no one has mentioned yet is Killing Zoe. If you haven't seen it check it out.

personally i dont think watching movies is a fun thing to do while tripping. It often ruins it for me. I know I have a greater appreciation for some movies after I have tripped such CUBE, CUBE2, 2001, PI and other movies that make you think about life and philosophies

Here is my list of choice films to watch while tripping:
1. Alice In Wonderland - cartoons are always a good choice because they are filled with vibrant colors and wacky characters. In Alice in Wonderland you can see trees growing in the black background when she is in the woods that you wouldnt normall see. It's just got a crazy story line and alot of strange shit going on.
2. Pink Floyd's The Wall - This one is filled with uppers and downers. It can get kinda scary but then moves on to something that just takes your mind by storm. I wouldnt watch this when tripping for the first time.
3. The Beatle's Yellow Submarine - Very colorful and very odd. You will just sit there and be like "what in the fu*k is going on?!?" It is definately a good choice. The music sets a very nice mood as well. (its a cartoon musical!)
4. The Matrix - It is out of this world weird and creepy. My brother had an expirence while watching this film where he stood up and thought he had neo's powers and made everything move in slow motion and could flex like hogan and the room would distort like a wave of energy shot out from his body.
5. Being John Malkovitch - strange shit man, thats all I have to say.
6. The Wizard of Oz - Very colorful film with outstanding characters and cool settings.
Well that is all that I can think of for now. If I think of more I will post em'

Another fun one to watch is "The Princess Bride". Jim Henson did some trippy stuff in that movie! Another one to check out is "Slaughterhouse Five". And dont forget the old classic "Heavy Metal" for some animated fun! And of course "The Matrix".

If you can find it, get ahold of "Emergency Broadcast Network" - they have a videotape called "Commercial Entertainment Product" which is mindblowing (I had to leave the room my second time watching it) -- it's not all peacefulness - in fact it's quite intense and barrages you with rapidfire images and political-statements-without-context. Fascinating.

I'm appalled no one suggested "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" Awesomely INTENSE movie while tripping.
A FOAF was said to be saw crying like a little child in the midst of viewing this film while tripping. Exact reasons are unknown, just that the movie had an effect on him.
I heard of this, and finally was curious enough and sit down in during a mushroom trip and calmly partake in my favorite movie. I had seen the movie several thousands of time in the past high off a couple bowls of pot and had found the movie as a way to "escape" and at the same time get some good humor from it.
If any of you had tripped a considerable amount, you understand and will admit to not always remembering your grilling. When I finally sat down to watch this movie after about an 8th of decent to poor potent cubensis, I had actually forgotin I was viewing the movie and had put myself into a more interactable role, as a third party of the journey.
I continued to watch the movie throughout the duration, and did it without emotional breakdown. I laughed when Dr. Gonzo made an ass out of himself at the amusement park casino, and my body had tensed up some with Dr. Gonzo has spun into a world of delirium. I was totally interacting with the vibes the visual and auditory aspects of the movie.
I really wouldn't recommend any movies while "tripping". I say, go out with friends and EXPLORE! If you have ingested a small dose however, a movie seems like a fun and logical thing to do.
Never the less, as I always say before setting out on a big trip with some good friends, "Go with the flow" as you will enjoy your experience 10 fold even if the concept applies to laughing uncontrollably at the tv, or being mesmorized with visuals and music.

12 Monkeys (Can be a total mind fuck)
The Life of Brian (I cried from laughter)
Shrek (I love the animation and the humor)

Nobody has mentioned Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas... that's a good movie. Cube would tweak me out while tripping, but fear and loathing always sets up for a good trip.
Yeah I hear you, I think they put the part where they're driving through the desert first, because it creates a good begining of a trip atmosphere. A great movie stoned or on shrooms.

1. The Wall - it's made for tripping balls to... whatelse can be said?
2. Alice In Wonderland - Every moment of this cartoon is a trip... even when your not tripping
3. Gumby The Movie - OMG... makes no sense what-so-ever. Anything claymation is very cool to watch.
4. Monty Pythons The Holy Grail - Very funny movie that has a lot of trippy things go on in it. Stuff that leaves you saying to yourself "WTF!" The knights of nee... come on now... that's just great!
5. The Matrix - One of my favorite movie while I'm not tripping. Tripping while watching this movie only enhances it.

I just watched "Snatch" this weekend on Shrooms. Can anyone else NOT understand a WORD Brad Pitt is saying? Or am I just fucked up? Heh. Very cool, though confusing, movie.

I just watched Timothy Leary's "How to Operate Your Brain" (it's on the eMule/eDonkey network).....it was a totally trippy half-hour
-------------------- The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".
In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.
And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.
"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

I've found that anything by Paul Thomas Anderson can be good... The Thin Red Line (poetry. non stop poetry) Magnolia... Boogie Nights (yep!) Adam Sandlers new one was a trip- "Punch Drunk Love" I loved this movie. Everyone left the theatre because they couldn't take it. They were expecting Sandler. They got PTAnderson's bizarreness...

Some of you guys watch some freaky ass movies...some I can't even stand to watch sober.
I always have to watch movies while I'm tripping, its actually the only time I can ever sit through an entire movie, usually two
my list
- The Fifth Element - Blade Runner - The Matrix - Bjork - Volumen (a collection of her videos, absolutely essential for me) - Vanilla Sky - Ronin - Airplane - Cannibal The Musical - All 3 Back to the Future movies (cheesy but fun)

Yeah, the movie and the book don't follow exactly the same storylines.
"It's impossible to make a movie out of 'Naked Lunch.' A literal translation just wouldn't work. It would cost $400 million to make and would be banned in every country of the world." -- David Cronenberg
The movie has some good biographical material from Burrough's life. The William Tell routine really happened, for example, and was the reason Bill moved to Tangiers (Interzone?) for a while. Hank and Martin, who are in the book too, are supposedly Kerouac and Ginsberg. It's a great movie, but it doesn't get into the social commentary that makes Burroughs the monster author he is. Definately a movie you'd enjoy more after reading the book, if you can stomach it.

I can imagine Sprited away would be interesting on shrooms, i watched it while i was really baked, and it was fairly wierd. The huge heads were fucking bizzare.
yeah, waking life would be good, it is a bit 'philopophy 101' though. It's as though the director opened up an introduction to philosophy text book and created a movie about people discussing different arguements chapter by chapter. The animation is incredible though.

I find anything with technicolor is amazing during the peak... i was flipping through channels one night during the peak and every channel i landed on was soldiers being blown up or a stabwound with a blood puddle expanding or just various shades of darkness and my mind started to go into a negative loop and then i thankfully land on a john wayne movie... hahah... i enjoyed watching the duke's face morph exactly like they do in natural born killers but then i noticed the beautiful neon colors of the technicolor background bleeding out of the tv until eventually the entire room consisted purely of technicolor bliss. during a trip i find that the structure and meaning of anything i watch on tv just disappears so i just go for the most visually appealing...
Has anyone seen Altered States?! Dear god... people need to watch this... it's about a scientist doing experiments with isolation chambers and eventually he starts combining mushrooms with the isolation chamber and his trips externalize themselves... YOU MUST WATCH THIS MOVIE. I COMMAND YOU. The trip sequences are so lush and creamy and juicy and good... My mind explodes with psychedelic energy if i watch one of the sequences during a trip... i cannot stress the importance of watching this film. A must see for any psychonaut.

Quote:
Has anyone seen Altered States?!
Indeed I have. I agree it a must-see film very loosely based on Dr. John C. Lilly's pioneering work with the sensory deprivation tank which he invented. Inspired me to purchase my own tank. Love the scenes where he goes to Mexico to get shrooms from the natives. Btw, Lilly is also the inspiration of another film, Day of the Dolphin, which I haven't seen.
My list:
1) Dreams. Directed by Akira Kurosawa. Very surreal, calming.
2) The Matrix
3) Lair of the White Worm. Based upon Dracula author Bram Stoker's novel. Filmed in Scotland. Something of a horror (non-gory) film, but very unique in its style in every respect. TheSlapnCapn, if you liked the trippy sequences in Altered States you'll love the ones in this movie! 4) Edward Scissorhands
5) Network. A classic from the 70's with a great cast, incredible dialogue, and plot. Still relevant after all this time.. "I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!!"

Ever heard the oysterhead song "oz is ever floating" ? I thought that perhaps dr. john c. lilly was just another fictional name claypool had made up. Thank you. You've given me another interesting topic to read up on.
Also someone asked where the "balls" came from in the term "tripping balls"... the answer to this i do not know but one night whilst walking around town tripping with a couple mates, we found the trip to be a bit light so we coined the term tripping walnuts... feel free to use...

One of my friends has a term he uses when smoking a whoole lot of pot, which is FBS: Floating Balls Syndrome (it's the "light" feeling you get in your balls after smoking a lot)
And something else topic-related.
There is a movie theater where I live that has a thing they call Weird Wednesday, where they show free wacked out movies at midnight. 2 days ago a huge group of friends and I went and watched this 70's 3d porn!!! they had 3D glasses for everyone for $1. It was quite an odd movie, and not really that much sex (more just nudity). anyone, what I REALLY wanted to mention, was that they showed a commercial for upcoming Weird Wednesday films, and they are going to show, get this,
THE WIZARD OF OZ WITH THE PINK FLOYD ALBUM DUBBED OVER IT!!!!
I don't know if anyone else has already done this, like in your house, (i have never seen it done) but to be able to see it in a movie theater, at midnight? that's badass. They also show regular movies at this theater too, and soon they will be bringing Don Hertzfeldt's Animation festival. Thats gauranteed to be awesome. If you haven't seen the Don Hertsfeldt's short movie (about 9 and 1/ minutes) called 'Rejected' then you really need to see it. Go download on kazaa or whatever.
I'm thinking I might try and make that Wizard of Oz/Pink floyd showing my first experience with HBWR. Anyone think its a good idea?

Fear and Loathing -excellent trip movie (one of the best imo) depps performance is incredible as Hunter S. Thompson
Fritz the Cat - Crumb the cartoonist came up with this character in the 60's... great fun, and the old style of cartoon is pretty psychadelic @ times (havent watched trippin but i imagine to be a great trip flick)
Magical Mystery Tour - my fave Beatles movie so far
Pulse - Pink Floyd movie, if you are a pink floyd fan, this Live concert is very keen, the visual effects are incredible try to watch it on a big screen, and dark as possible

Ok, these list has more then 5 movies, but i coudnt decide, wich are the top 5 of these :
-Fantastic Planet -PI -The holy Mountain -Begotten (probably the wierdest movie ever made ) -Baraka -Aeon Flux -Dead Man (Fantastic to watch, while you wait for the shrooms to kick in,the movie develops from a normal movie to a more and more bizzare plot of spiritual enlightenment) -Tetsuo Ironman (Tetsuo Bodyhammer gave me bad vibes btw) -Fear and loathing is Las Vegas -Clerks -Heavy Metal 2000 + original -Koyaanisqatsi -Spun -Where the Buffalo Roam -The Acid House -Animatrix -Human Traffic

* "Trainspotting" is fucking great!! My first time for this was on acid, and it was very cool. (but yes the baby was rough) * Also great is "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas." * If you are a Floyd fan you cant miss with "The Wall" * And if you are a Floyd fanatic "Dark side of oz" (wizard of oz with Dark Side Of The Moon.) start cd at the 3rd roar of the mgm lion, and let cd repeat throughout. * Live concerts are great also.
Stay away from any movie by "David Lynch" (Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks, Lost Highway) They scare the shit out of me sober. (And i love it !!!)

Animatrix was too intense for me.. I mean they did that "slow motion zoom" thing on the most random stuff like someone throwing their keys.. still a good movie though.
I also enjoyed Monsters, inc.

With regards to pink floyd: PULSE ! <- The best video and perhaps one of the greatest lightshows you will ever see. Thanks david, I do wish I was there.
I have seen dark side of oz, it was quite intense thought. (dsotm synced to oz).
I saw dazed and confused once whilst tripping, that was a good movie. Really sort of swam in the atmosphere of the movie the whole way through, it was great.
Any movie you watch, the shrooms are going to throw you a different perspective on things. Personally I would steer cleer of requiem - I had already seen something similar before I saw it, only much more light hearted (but equally as well executed) by the name of trainspotting. I don't think we need to dig up depression in a movie to live through during a shroom trip. Personally I would rather be happy you know?..
It would be cool to see some TNA movies shrooming..

ive always enjoyed tripping to the following - monty python's the meaning of life only for the scene in which they say... "i wonder where my fish could be.. he went wherever i did go..." that whole scene is whack and i loved tripping balls and watching that 5 minte scene over and over.. that and the tv funhouse episode where fogey tries to stop eating his own poop by switching to the poop substitute "i cant believe its not poop" i dont think ive ever laughed so incredibly hard as i did when he said "what are you talking about?! ite great i tell you! just like poop... creamy, delicious poooop.." and then he starts tripping out and sees his cat friend turn into a piece of shit and then tries to eat him... hahaha oh man im laughing right now just typing it..

In random order:
1) 'Blow'. I was watching the intro coming up on shrooms and it there were patterns all over my trip buddy's laptop. All I seem to remember are scenes where Depp buys or consumes drugs... the rest is kinda blurred hehe.
2) Next time I'm going for 'Army of Darkness'. Completely dumbass horror/action flick, with the worst animated skeletons ever, and a protagonist who speaks in oneliners only. Great movie when smoking, and I think it would be great when tripping.
3) 'The Meaning of Life'. I'm always in the mood for Monty Python.
4) 'The Wall' was really good on weed too, haven't tried on shrooms.
5) 'Lost Highway'. Just too weird. Man do I love David Lynch movies

1. THX 1138: Geroge lucas's first movie. If you havn't triped on this, go get it. 2. Requrium of a Dream 3. 2001: A Space Odyssey 4. Dr. Stranglove: Avery funny dark comedy. 5. Gold Rush: You have to really like movies, to enjoy this. IT is one of chaplin's best films, silent and talkie. The silent movie aspect really gets you.
Oh man, Requium for a dream while tripping... It's a really good movie, but it makes me sooooooo depressed! I need happy, uplifting movies! like, um... well, i dunno. BUT... I really liked donnie darko while high! It's a little depressing, but at the end he's like all happy because he realized that he saved the world and shit. Oh yeah, I know whats really good to watch! Any episode of Cowboy Bebop. That Anime is fuckin' great! I have a friend who doesn't really like Anime, but saw Cowboy Bebop and loved it! It's action-packed!

cowboy bebop is pretty cool but it would take two days to watch the whole thing cuz its maybe 20 episodes or somethin...maybe with a lot of shrooms I could accomplish that.
my list: 1. Blade Runner 2. Fifth Element 3. Blade Runner 4. Blade Runner 5. Blade Runner 6. any anime must be good while trippin 7. Fear and Loathing is cool while high...with friends except it can get a little boring after the flying bats part and the weird kid in the car. Actually I just got the new remastered Dvd. cool shite!! 8. Blade Runner

if i had never seen it before i would imagine seeing contact on acid or dxm would be pretty cool. kind of loses its magic once you see it though.
-pi -cube then cube 2 -vanilla sky
hint, don't watch the matrix alot before you trip on dxm. always fucks with me, i start noticing the electricity going everywhere, and all the information flying around invisibly. it makes me feel as though i can physically feel such things, which is not pleseant.

I watched Waking Life for the first time last week while trippin. Every line was nothing short of profound!
Try watching PBS in the middle of the night. There are all of these random shows many about nature that are way cool to watch whaile on a trip. We call it the trip channel.

-South Park - The Complete First Season; -Headcandy: Sidney's Psychedelic Adventure; -National Geographic's The Invisible World; -Joe Dirt; -Moonshine Movies Presents AV:X.01 - Transambient; -The Blue Planet - Seas of Life (Part 2); ... i almost raptured a spleen watching south park. i would leave headfnck movies for after. nothing during, unless just on a low dose of shrooms with weed maybe. ...

Ok, HANDS DOWN for me the best viewing experience while tripping has to be all 26 Episodes of the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion followed by the movie conclusion to the series, The End Of Evangelion. If you have not seen Evangelion, do so immediately. I also saw Kill Bill yesterday, and that was a trip in itself . Otherwise, all the movies you guys are mentioning are mostly beyond great.
